Gang violence

I have noticed a trend of rising gang violence in Alberta and I can only assume the same for the rest of the country, the suprising thing, or maybe not so suprising is that most of the violence orginates from imported gangs. People that come over from other countries and bring their gangs with them, I think this is kinda stupid. Personally I think if your caught in a gang and your an immigrant you should lose your Canadian citizenship and be deported back to where you came from. Its only fair, if you want to come over, great, but don't bring this crap to our country. I know its only natural as long as a city grows and becomes an economic power it will attract such elements, but they can be delt with in a much more effective manner. What do you think?

Our biggest problem with gangs here are native youth gangs, not gangs imported form other countries. Gangs and crime grow with social problems. If you have a gang problem, your should consider why.

swirling in the abyss of nowhere la
You know, this is what makes me so happy to be on PEI. Sure the city cops can't solve an issue to save their lives, and one was just dismissed from the force due to kiddie porn charges, and another was suspended for being accuse of DUI, but they don't have much in the way of serious criminal activity to deal with outside of their own. Generally there are B and E's, club fights and such, but otherwise we're pretty peaceful. I wouldn't want to raise my kids anywhere else

*EDIT to add*- even when the boys from Hell's Angels come to visit the Harley Club, they're very well behaved...i met a bunch of them. The Harley club itself are a great bunch, pussycats really, the even have the ride for sight here to support the blind. Our most notorious club donates to the regions children's hospital too!

My point is that it doesn't matter where it comes from, it is the social conditions that create gangs. Until you acknowledge that and start to deal with those conditions, you won't be addressing the problems.

I used to be a gang member when I was a teen (not gun carrying gang), more of a revolutionary type of gang. Graffiti and crap.

Great way to get laid I tell ya :p

The money comes from the crime that gangs commit though. They wouldn't have those cars otherwise. There's also status that isn't otherwise available to them and, as ITN mentioned, sex. Those are pretty major motivators for young people.
