That can only be truly defined on a situational basis. People will naturally adapt as they have in the past 30 years - where pride gradually sounds less and less like some WWII propaganda advert.

And you will decide on the situations?

So should Canada ban flag day?

My allegiance is to the land, the people and all the life that dwells thereon, not some corporate entity traded on the New York stock exchange. The Canadian government is nothing more than the board of directors of the corporation. I pledge no allegiance to fictitious entities or lines draw on a map by colonial powers that separate people and keep them separate by the use of political adversity. I believe in the sanctity and oneness of all life, not just human.

I remember being marched onto the front yard of the school on February 15, 1965, so we could all see the Red Ensign being lowered and the Pearson Pennant unfurled.

I do too, Walter.........I also remember the long debate about adopting a new flag and some of the really weird designs that were put forward. I came to like the new flag with its emblematic maple leaf and am glad it was chosen.

Whatever he was, he was pretty damn patriotic.

What if we just like being here without feeling the need to celebrate a piece of fabric? :)

Then be my guest, MF...........but you better realize that all around the world, the flag of a country is an important symbol to its citizens and millions of people would dispute your attitude towards honoring it.

Why is it so awful to be proud of where you're from? Why do people like you think it is important to ridicule (in a way) the people who like to show pride in their country?

One has to wonder, Eagle.......but then it is MF we are talking about and exceptions might be made for the mentally deficient or pity shown.;-)

Northern Ontario,
Hitler was a fascist, which is pretty much the exact opposite of socialism.

If you had read the thing in context, you might have noticed I was being sarcastic, I couldn't remember which colour to use for sarcasm:smile:

Anyways ....If you draw the political compass as a circle...extreme right and extreme left end up in the same place cause they are very much alike.......

I have a flag in my front yard. I'm not some kind of super patriot, I've traveled a fair amount
and I know that we are very lucky to have what we have. Canada has been a pretty good country
for about a hundred and forty five years, and it could have been a lot different.
