Maarib's parents are accused of torturing their 16-year-old girl.
San Antonio cops allege a 16-year-old Iraqi girl was subjected to unthinkable modes of torture after refusing to enter into an arranged marriage.
The girl’s parents – Abdulah Fahmi Al Hishmawi, 34, and Hamdiyah Sabah Al Hishmawi, 33 – are accused scalding the teen with hot cooking oil, lashing her with brooms and savagely choking her until she nearly became unresponsive.
Cops believe the victim’s parents were to receive $20,000 from a sick individual looking to score a young bride.
Abdulah Fahmi Al Hishmawi, 34
“This young lady, at various times over that time period was subjected to some pretty bad abuse because she didn’t want to be married to this person,” Bexar County Sheriff Jamier Salazar said, according to KSAT 12.
The desperate girl – named Maarib – fled her twisted home on Jan. 30. She was found six weeks later.
Authorities also rescued five of Maarib’s siblings.
Hamdiyah Sabah Al Hishmawi, 33
Abdulah Al Hishmawi and his wife are charged with continuous violence against a family member. They were released on bonds totaling $60,000.
The man seeking the arranged marriage could be charged, according to the report.
The FBI is involved in the case to help Texas authorities with language barriers.
