How did the last European Mars probe do?

Last time I checked they lost contact as it entered the Mars atmosphere. It is most likely a pile of twisted computer boards and metal on the Martian surface.

The United States got two little rovers roaming on the red planet. It was ashame the BEAGLE II (named after Darwin's exploration ship) from the Brits failed, and the one from Japan. Imagine 4 separate probes all working at the same time !!

Are you sure it was the US who put rovers on Mars?

I think it is all a conspiracy. ::wink::

It's okay if the ESA operates separately and independently. And it's okay if the europeans don't want to deal with complex American security law, despite a 500 page EU constitution that deals with the tiniest of details, which gives such a document less of a driving spirit but more of a tedious hurdle.

Science benefits from cooperation and it also benefits from redundant, parallel independent efforts.

Nothing like starting from a clean slate is just as good as not having to re-invent the wheel. Both have their benefits.
