I just read the transcript of the interview.....it was language that confused Dion. If this is credible then so to is the plagiarism of speeches by Harper....same tactic....same non-issue politics.

Harper didn't even know the word for trillion in french, does that make him unfit?

Hardly, his policies do.

Btw, at least Dion, makes himself available to the press and people.....not sure why Harper is so afraid of average Canadians.

.....just saw a clip on the news, this is desperate politics by Harper, he wants that majority heading into a reccession and he's not going to get it.....good.

The question was:

"If you were prime minister now, what would you have done about the economy and this crisis that Mr. Harper has not done?"

The problem here was likely translation of verb tenses. He was looked like he was trying to make sense of it by translating it into French, and it probably didn't make any sense.

The question was a "past perfect passive hypothetical" conditioned with a "simple past passive negated".... Easy to understand if its your native language.

Yep, the hypocritical liberal hacks on this board would be jumping up and down...

Hypothetically, I would hope that I wouldn't and that I would be classy enough to make this statement:

He made a mistake....got a little flustered...BIG DEAL!!

Doesn't mean a thing to me..... Dion is a very bright man, and a pretty good guy, it seems. I get really tired of this kind of "gotya" politics.....he is, after all, human. This does not indicate a thing except that he is human.

It is simply that he is wrong, wrong, wrong on so many things.

If you watch Dion's expression at the end of the question you can see a glimmer of confusion and fear when he realizes he doesn't have a clue about what the interviewer just asked. He recognizes the words but they just don't seem to fit together in a comprehensible way. I know the feeling very well.

Its sort of like this conversation

Abbott: Alright, now whaddya want?

Costello: Now look, I'm the head of the sports department. I gotta know the baseball players' names.
Do you know the guys' names?
Abbott: Oh sure.
Costello: So you go ahead and tell me some of their names.
Abbott: Well, I'll introduce you to the boys. You know sometimes nowadays they give ballplayers peculiar names.
Costello: You mean funny names.
Abbott: Nicknames, pet names, like Dizzy Dean -
Costello: His brother Daffy -
Abbott: Daffy Dean -
Costello: And their cousin!
Abbott: Who's that?
Costello: Goofy!
Abbott: Goofy, huh? Now let's see. We have on the bags - we have Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know's on third.
Costello: That's what I wanna find out.
Abbott: I say Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know's on third -
Costello: You know the fellows' names?
Abbott: Certainly!
Costello: Well then who's on first?
Abbott: Yes!
Costello: I mean the fellow's name!
Abbott: Who!
Costello: The guy on first!
Abbott: Who!
Costello: The first baseman!
Abbott: Who!
Costello: The guy playing first!
Abbott: Who is on first!
Costello: Now whaddya askin' me for?
Abbott: I'm telling you Who is on first.
Costello: Well, I'm asking YOU who's on first!
Abbott: That's the man's name.
Costello: That's who's name?
Abbott: Yes.
Costello: Well go ahead and tell me.
Abbott: Who.
Costello: The guy on first.
Abbott: Who!
Costello: The first baseman.
Abbott: Who is on first!
Costello: Have you got a contract with the first baseman?
Abbott: Absolutely.
Costello: Who signs the contract?
Abbott: Well, naturally!
Costello: When you pay off the first baseman every month, who gets the money?
Abbott: Every dollar. Why not? The man's entitled to it.
Costello: Who is?
Abbott: Yes. Sometimes his wife comes down and collects it.
Costello: Who's wife?
Abbott: Yes.
Costello: All I'm tryin' to find out is what's the guy's name on first base.
Abbott: Oh, no - wait a minute, don't switch 'em around. What is on second base...

Colpy, you have my respect and admiration for that post. You can understand and respect a man you honestly disagree with, without laying on all the emotional crap so many people do. There is much we disagree on, as I'm sure you know, but every post of yours I've read tells me you're an honourable, decent, and honest person, the persona you present here is who you really are. Man, we just gotta make an opportunity somehow to get together over a beer or two and have a *real* conversation, I'm sure it'd be fascinating and enlightening for both of us.

Might happen some time too. My son's currently in training to be a naval officer and is almost certain to be spending some time on the east coast in the next few years. If/when we fly out to visit him in Halifax, I'll PM you and see if we can work something out. You're not that far from Halifax, compared to the distance between Regina, where I am, and Halifax. And it's been a long time since I've visited that part of this country, be nice to have a good reason to drive around it a bit. I think you're a good reason.

You call this a breakdown?!! Dion is making sure he clearly understands the question before answering it... To me that's a sure sign of intelligence...

Of course, the video clearly shows to what extent his English language skills are poor for a potential Canadian prime minister. French is my mother tongue and I can easily see in this video how Dion is simply confused by the use of the past perfect progressive in the question.

It's one thing to say Dion sucks in English. But to call this a breakdown is pathetic partisanry.

Imagine what the left would be saying if Palin had done this.

He may stumble sometimes but he still hits a home run in I would say. Not like Harper picking on him for having a misunderstanding..... Geesh.... He bullies and makes it look like perfectly acceptable behavior. Another stop sign for Harper....

Harper didn't have to do this.

He could have let Dion stew.

I guess those are the tactics when you don't have a good plan and the other party has a better one and the people are moving towards it.

Naw ... it's what happens when Smart guy #1 makes a left turn in front of the train ... then Smart guy #2 goes: "I'll show him..." and makes his left turn in front of the caboose....
