BOLTON, ONT — Conservative Leader Stephen Harper defended his child-care plan today, reiterating that he believes it can produce 125,000 day care spaces over five years by offering $250 million in tax credits to employers and community groups to build them.

The plan was announced last month, along with his pledge of a $1,200 per child tax break for parents.

He said today the Tory approach is better than a Liberal proposal to establish a national day care program because it won't create any new bureaucracy or funnel money through the provinces.

Isn't it interesting that both the Liberal and Tory plans are small and inadequate if you want to find some info on it.

That still leaves school aged children out in the cold. Programs for children 4 and up are expensive and hard to come by and just happen to be one of the biggest childcare needs.
