well, since it sort of got started in the previous thread in an unrelated manner, I figured I would have it completely related in this topic! :violent1:
The Country of Cuba, run by a Socialistc Govt that has an election but yet doesn't really have the leader change. They have many issues with the USA, the Embargo, Cubans that flee their own land to come to the States only to be rejected and sent back home.
Many people from other countries that don't have issues with them, will travel yearly to Cuba for Vacations to their beautiful resorts and see the land that to many who actually go there see very little if any of this so called Tyranny that the USA claims occurs there all the time.
Yes, there were problems back when this revolution first occurred! the Castro govt killed many people who were against them, possibly a fear that they didnt' want anyone to try and over run them.
But this article is ABOUT CUBA TODAY!
I for one, like the Country of Cuba. I have no issues with it even though they're run by a leader that determines pretty much everything that happens to it on a national scale.
they have been recently allowed Cell Phones, they've been given more ability the last while to do things when Fidel's brother took over.
When I visited in April of 2008 for 9 days. I saw Havana, the city that really stands out from the rest. Sure, they don't have a McDonalds or a Subway or a Walmart or Burger King, and so on. they don't have Rogers Digital TV, Sirius/XM Satellite Radio, etc. They do get to have computers, but they're not exactly top of the line, HP or Dell or IBM style. They do have TV's! but they aren't 60 inch wide screen HD types. their cars are from the 50's era. but they build their parts and do all their repairs on the island!
their culture and lifestyle is a simpler one. But from what I saw, and the family I got to know? they weren't all that concerned that they didn't have many of the things we have.
I remember talking to the one man who was I think 21, 22? he had a computer. it was about a year and some behind the ones that were new in America. he didn't have an IPOD, weren't available. didn't have a cell phone, weren't there yet!
I told him all about the stuff that we had available. like the TV's the DVD players, the recorders,
he was amazed and thought how cool these things were. But he didn't say "how I would love to have one!!"
his biggest thrill was downloading TV shows off the internet. I can't remember exactly how he was doing it, hard to recall 2 years..
the family was happy with how their lives were. it was genuine, it was not faked to appear that way. they ran a business where they would rent out their extra rooms to tourists. they had only rules where they had to have declared how many people were staying there. and they of course, like any place here that pays taxes to the govt, paid a certain percentage of what they earned to the govt. no different really if you look at it closely.
the mother of the family was actually working in a business that was allowed to leave Cuba for business and she has been to Canada and other countries.
she comes back of course but that's a given, she's not tempted to desert her family at all, like I said she has no issues living in Cuba.
Ya Cuba has its problems. But they're not as bad and as insane as the US media makes them out to be. far from it!
if I could afford to, I'd go back in a minute!
the USA is already working on changing their laws. very soon people will be allowed to go there again without restrictions.
and soon that Embargo will be lifted, just working on some things I'm sure in the background that we don't learn about.
but I believe a lot of it has to do with the economy and they I'm sure cannot afford to be stopping Cuba anymore.
Besides, Cuba is looking into offshore drilling!! and the US I don't think wants to give that up to them. naturally.
