That's just mean...rubbing it in like that :crybaby:

I don't know about the media in NYC, but in my area, police and investigators are loath to say anything about causes and charges before the investigation is done, unless the evidence is blatent...so I'll go with that assumption. Yes I say assumption. because something could show up changing my mind...or yours ITN. If I'm right, you owe me pizza

There should certainly be investigations into all such events, regardless of ownership. Nobody is saying that Crown Corporations should get a free ride, ITN.

Ah, but its way too late for that, innit? I imagine thats the reason it was privatised. Because of archaic too costly to maintain system. Not to mention the obvious over-employment that required subsidies by the government. But I keep forgetting, you're all for that

If it is proven it is negligence I have no problem with certain people being fined and imprisoned for that matter.

I'll make you a pizza anytime :D

Is manda a socialist too?

Socialists are OK people to hang out with, just keep you're wallet and the impressionable children out of sight.

I love how the bickering between forum members resembles what's actually happening in the affected areas...

I bet government investigators and CN investigators are at both BC and Alberta scenarios right now inspecting everything from the track quality to the types and amount of dead water creatures. Government inspectors will conclude the track was of inferior quality, the tanks were not reinforced properly to handle being derailed and force CN Rail to get started cleaning up its mess OR suffer massive fines, as well as clean up costs. If they're being considerate they'll force CN Rail to reimburse all affected property owners as well (they went from owning beautiful waterfront property to Oil-front property, ya landvalues will definetly go up from there!)

CN Rails inspectors will probably deduce that the tracks were just recently inspected, passing all needed criteria (as well as the tanker cars). The derailment was a random accident that was unavoidable and therefore should not have to suffer full cost of the clean-up. Lawyers will appeal the government inspectors decisions causing this case to wind up in the backlog of the judicial system because neither government nor CN Rails wants to pay the cost of this clean up...CN Rails because it would lower their price-per-share in the market place and because they know if they hold out long enough the people will eventually complain to the government to get a clean up started, which will be mediocre at best.

The people living in these areas will get so fed up that they'll take the loss and sell their property just to finally get away from all the corporate and governmental bullshit.

The incident will finally be resolved a decade from now with CN Rails purchasing the affected lands and using it for whatever purposes they see fit. The rest of the world doesn't even remember there used to be beautiful land with wildlife and bodies of water that people called home.

Somewhere a child cries.

Turns out that derailments are up 50% . The record has growing steadily worse since privatisation. Massive cutbacks to maintenance have been mentioned by everybody but the CN brass.

Funny how when I watch the news, there are so many people saying the exact same things.

That's because of the left-wing bias in the media, Rev...

All governments should be in the train running business...they should run the buses too...in fact, one of those sleazy government folk should pick me up everyday for work.

Yeah, 'cause all those Albertans they just interviewed about having their lake destroyed by oil are actually ardent members of the NDP.

Oh, a little more on that story. There is now an advisory about well water in the area, and they are supposed to stay out of the lake even where there is no oil. They are also supposed to quit picking up and cleaning wildlife. Seems that there is an issue of some unnamed toxic chemical too.

It isn't entirely clear if the chemical was in the oil that was spilled, or a separate part of the same spill. What is clear is that it took CN over a week to tell anybody about it.
