Nonsense! Japan has paved pretty much everything except Mt Fuji and a couple thousand acres of rice patties, and they are one of the most advanced nations on earth!

The Chinese and Japanese societies have always been ahead of the rest, Marco Polo found that out, at least about the Chinese. Japan still hasn't dragged itself out of the mess from the banking crisis of the '90s and has to import all it's raw materials because it has none of it's own. But we've drifted off topic.
