Jay do you mind, we would like to try and have a real discussion here about British columbia, if you have nothing to offer other than the usual arguments, could you post them for the many other political threads at this website.

Well I did ask Jay, and well I knew where it would get me. I view your contribution to the discussion of british columbia politics TROLLING so I will discuss it with andem. If you have nothing to offer except the usual socialism rant..than you degrade our discussion.

Pea, you viewing contributions as TROLLING is so worn thin that I don't give it any credit. The policy around here (incase your not aware of what your doing) is any conservative who bothers to sign up and say anything is immediately voiced as "WE HAVE A TROLL HERE" and treated like dirt.

So while your wasting Andem’s time, tell him that you’re completely bias and anything Jay says about socialism bothers you and you consider it degrading and TROLLING.

I wonder why we have a shortage of Doctors??? If you have an emergency, who would you like to see - A Doctor, or an overpaid janitor and cafeteria worker? Hmmm...

well, i don't see very many janitors or cafeteria workers.....weren't they all laid off? no there were around 8,000 that were fired.

why do we have a shortage of doctors in bc? whoa, there insig...that is whole other can of worms!

Yes it is trolling, its the same stuff you post in all the other threads. I don't really care, but I want to have a real discussion in my provincial forum as we have a election coming up. And again, you do not tell me what to do, and really I never waste andem time
So unless you are going to offer us some insight into the working of our province beside the socialist rant, I feel you are trolling and trying to turn this thread into the usual political garbage. I am hoping that we british columbians can have something different here before we decide how we are going to vote.

Exactly my point. Janitors/cleaning staff/support staff were forced to take cuts, and a lot of those positions have been contracted out to private companies in order to facilitate a raise for the skilled staff (doctors and nurses) 2 years ago.

As for the doctor shortage - we need more spaces in our medical schools. At least the Liberals have recognized this, unfortunately, we won;t see the benefit of this for another 4-5 years.

Another point I would like to add sig, don't you think it might also have to do with money. Its hard to compete with the huge salaries being offered in other places. I think money has also played an important factor in why doctors are leaving the province. Thank goodness there are still a few "country" doctors left in the province, not many but there are still a few.

One of the ideas that the liberals have mentioned in their policy is british columbians eating more leafy green vegetables. Well that is a good idea, but how do you put this into action? They have not elaborated on that. You can force people to do this? And the last time I looked those leafy green vegetables were very expensive. I don't have to feed a family, so the price does not usually concern me. But I am a very small minority. You also cannot force good eating habits on people, so although I feel in some respects its a good idea, to make it mainstream seems a little absurd to me. I think the liberals have to come up with some better ideas than that.
Also the story about supplying welfare receipts with blenders so they could puree there food was a bit of a stretch. Seriously, you expect welfare receipts to go out and seek employment toothless 8O When was the last time you had a customer service representive serve you toothless. I don't want my tax money going into blenders so people on welfare can eat their food. I want them to go to school, have some teeth, and go out into the work force. I don't mind my tax dollar going for that.

"yeah we do, but what about the fact that the tuition fees have been doubled?"

There is no shortage of people trying to get into medical school! There's a line up a mile long. Once they become doctors, they will have more than enough money to pay back their student loans.

if you freeze tuition rates for ever, and you don't even make allowances for inflation, where is the money going to come from? Who's going to cover the cost of inflation?

Bigger Debt or More Taxes - you decide.

I went to a "technical school" after high school, and I can tell you that I had to cover 100% of the education costs. the taxpayers covered 0%. I worked the entire time I went to school so that I could pay my own way.

Why do so many people "EXPECT" the government should be paying their way through life?

I agree with government student loans and grants (and scholarships) for people who truly need the assistance.

Was Expo 86 a mistake too? The initial outlay for that was millions!

I think 2010 is going to change this province for the better. BCers should put their entrepreneurial spirit to work and capitalize on this rare/exciting event!

This is quickly turning into an uncivalized discussion.

Just because we disagree on our political views does'nt make me a neoconservative - that is simply ridiculous - as for working for Campbell, currently I do not, however, I think I may volunteer during the election.

insig - like i say, i like to vote for a party that has 'humanity' in the forecast. so far, i haven't seen too much 'humanity' coming from the liberal side of things. i dunno, maybe they will change their ways, but i don't think so.

my impression was that a lot of university enrollment was down - therefore the qualifications have been dropped to enter. this was due to dropped enrollment during the last three years.

i was under the impression that there was a lot of funding 'cut' from the liberal government last term, those ministries that are more on the 'humane' side of things, i.e. teachers salary, room size, special needs for kids, social assistance, hospital funding, long term beds, basically anything to do with the environment, etc.

there was also a fairly hefty tax relief given to corporate tax payers. somehow, this doesn't feel like a real balance. whenever i have attended liberal fund raisers the same players are in the room, fat cats, not the average 'joe'. makes me kinda wonder where they are coming from - kinda like well i'm okay, and i am receiving tax benefits, and guess who will be paying for them.
