Are these the early days of WWIII?

I do see world war III coming if there is no cease fire in Lebanon. Actually I thought this was just me, but I have realized that many people hold this view. I've been saying it for a while now, it's going to start with a middle eastern war and then turn global...
Let's hope it all calms down.

Why would it turn global? No one gives a shit about the Mideast. Let them all destroy each other.

I for one propose that Canada remove all of our forces from Afghanistan. In fact I propose that we remove all of our forces from worldwide duty and bring them all back home. There is a reason why they are called the Canadian Forces. They were created to protect Canadians. As a Canadian I do not give a shit about the rest of the world. Only Canada holds any import for me. Let the Mideast go up in flames. Who cares? They are nobodies to us as well they should be. It is time to put Canada first. This would also serve to cut our expenses. Worldwide expansion of our Forces costs money yet it serves not a single Canadian. It is time to end this farce and bring them all back home.

I also propose we back out of the UN. They serve us no purpose either. We do not need the UN. We never have and we never shall. Let us opt out of NATO too. Screw them. The world needs to be taught that Canadians only give a shit about Canadians.

Um... you do know that most of the world's easily recoverable oil is there, don't you? And that there are deep, centuries-old religious and political divisions between the people sitting on top of it and the people in Israel? That's the root of all fears in this context.

On the other hand, I agree with you on one thing: I doubt this is a conflict that'll turn global, though not for the same reasons you do. Things have been intermittently blowing up in the Middle East all my adult life; the danger of globalizing the conflict was far greater when the old USSR had client states in the region. Things might turn global when India and/or China feel their interests are threatened by the global hegemony of the United States. This isn't it. Give it a decade or so...

Was Victoria, now Ottawa
If there is a WWIII the people who will suffer the most are Americans. They are the ones who opted out of the none proliferation agreement and all those old nuclear weapons in other countries are pointing at American cities. Plus, Russia and other nations will now build up there weapons, and terrorists will easily be able to get them when they are transported.

It's true that with the frequency at which problems seem to emerge from the Middle-East, one can easily doubt this conflict will become global... Sounds like Peter crying "wolf" another time... But we all know how that story finishes...

We're all just waiting for the key dominoes to fall. Iran is talking but it's not doing much walking. You'd think if Hezbollah is as important to it as media stories imply then the oil-rich state might be putting more muscle into the organization. It might openly fortify the bold but beleaguered group.
Power dynamics are shifting. Russia is reawakening. It remains to be seen if the great Eurasian bear can overcome the numerous wounds it's received since Gorbachev took power. With the Shanghai Cooperative Organization quickly becoming the region's chief catalyst, and its membership dominated by Russia, China and Iran, it makes sense to think there are big surprises just up the road.
We've only just begun to preview the nightmare.
