The Anglican Church is not a Protestant Church and never has been.

King Henry VIII was never a Protestant, he was an ardent Catholic matter of fact. The title "Defender of the Faith" was given to King Henry VIII by the Pope as a reward for writing a book condeming the monk Martin Luther for attacking the Church and Catholicism. King Henry VIII's break with Rome was personal and political not relgious. King Henry VIII created the Anglican Church (Church of England) as a Catholic Church with himself the Supreme Governor instead of the Pope. King Henry VIII created the Six Articles of Faith to keep Catholic worship, doctrine and worship in and heretical ideas out the Anglican Church.

The Six Articles of Faith are

1. Transubstantiation.
2. The reasonableness of withholding of the cup from the laity during Communion.
3. Clerical celibacy.
4. Observance of vows of chastity.
5. Permiting for private Masses.
6. Importance of articular confession.

The current Anglican Church is a shame and a disgrace today and should return to its Catholic roots.

The Catholic Church is the Mother Church
The Anglican Church is the Daughter Church

The Anglican Church (Church of England) is part of the Holy Appolistic Catholic Church.

The Anglican Communion WAS CAtholic before it decided to abandon the apostolic priesthood. Now, it is truly protestant in all respects. The true Anglicans, those of the continuing Churches, they can still use a claim to being Catholic because they have retained the apostolic male priesthood.

How can a religion founded by one of the most depraved human beings ever--ie Henry the 8th be taken seriously?
For people who are supposably almost catholic they are generally in their demeanor rather anti-catholic--is this some form of veiled self hate generated by the collective guilt of a savage empire?--or is it merely the endemic double think that so infects their little island. I think they shall always remain a LITTLE people.

As a Catholic I am somewhat amused to rise in defence of Anglicanism, but there is one point I must make. King Henry did not found the Anglican church. What he did was remove the English Catholic church from the authority of the Pope.

Nothing like stating the obvious.

Yet inaccurate, somewhat. The Anglican Church was initially Catholic, right down to using the Latin Mass, but underwent a period of puritanism influenced by continental reformers such as Calvin and Zwingli. it revived its catholcity as a church during the Oxford movement. In the mid-70's it again became a protestant communion when it began ordaining women to its priesthood-thus ending any ties it had with apostolic ministry. There is, however, a "counter-church" of Anglicans who have split from the main body and these are truly catholic as they maintain not only the apsotolic priesthood, but the faith.
