Apparently this all came about because Scheer allegedly used party funds to send his kids to private school. Will be interesting to see who will throw their hat into the leadership race.

Hopefully the Cons will select a Leader for the whole party as part of Canada, and not just selective areas of Canada.

Regardless, it'll be interesting to see who steps up.

I'm hoping that Rona Ambrose will be able to run.

Kellie Leitch, Scott Moe, Jason Kenney, Maxime Bernier, Brian Pallister, Rona Ambrose, are some current contenders for the position.

Rona is my choice, Walter. Long past time when the Conservative party had another woman leader.........not that I am against men - love them I do..........but hands-down Rona would rock Pinocchio's world.

Good riddance.

He was a weak candidate, and the election was the Conservatives to lose. He came across as robotic and somewhat unlikeable.

My hope is Brad Wall may be his successor. If Harper can be convinced to come back, that will be great. Peter Mackay would make a good leader.

I have a lot of respect for both Brad and Peter but neither of them will be my choice for a new leader. Mr Harper is quite happy being shed of Canadian politics.

Watching his resignation speech in the HOC right now.

Inevitable.

Hang him high. But Trudeau's team of nannies...good job, junior.

Andrew Scheer is resigning as Conservative leader

Andrew Scheer is resigning as the Conservative leader. He was meeting with his caucus on Parliament Hill on Thursday and is expected to stay on until a replacement is named.

........The cons have some serious work ahead now.

He might be remembered for his stance (not clear let alone current ) on woman's choice, climate change, and same sex marriage....along with a few other issues. He would not/ could not address those issues effectively.......and for the current times.

Um......did you miss the topic headline? What he will be remembered for is up for debate but now that he is gone us Conservatives have the duty to elect a leader who will lead us to victory in the next election and who is respected and liked by all sides of the HOC - that is why I am behind Rona 100%.

Leadership

Rona is a dynamic national leader who has received many awards for her advocacy and role in public policy. During her tenure as Leader of Canada’s Official Opposition, she gained the respect of parliamentarians of all political stripes, and led the Conservative Party of Canada to the highest membership in its history and set a new tone by becoming the first leader of the Conservative Party to back equal marriage and march in a gay pride parade.

Experience

As a key member of the federal cabinet for a decade, Rona served as a minister across nine departments & agencies. At the time of her appointment, Rona was youngest female cabinet minister in Canadian history. As a federal minister, Rona created and chaired the federal advisory council for women on boards.

Today Rona is involved in bilateral trade and competitiveness issues. In addition to serving as an independent corporate director on several boards, Rona has also recently partnered with TD Securities. She is a Global Fellow at the Wilson Centre Canada Institute in Washington DC, and serves on the advisory council of the Canadian Global Affairs Institute.

Passion

Rona is a passionate advocate for women in Canada and around the world and led the global movement to create the “International Day of the Girl” at the United Nations. Later this fall, she will be featured in the UN Women’s “She Innovates” campaign. Rona recently launched “#SheLeads”, a non-profit foundation in Alberta focused on encouraging women to run for office and participate in public life.

She also created and co-chairs the She Leads Economic Council of Alberta, a high-powered group of women corporate leaders who provide non-partisan economic advice to high-ranking government and political officials.

She has spent her life passionately fighting for disadvantaged women and girls. She was one of the champions responsible for ensuring that aboriginal women in Canada were finally granted equal matrimonial rights. She successfully fought for the creation of a Canadian refugee program to bring Yazidi women and girls who have been sexually enslaved by ISIS to safety in Canada, working alongside Nadia Murad who recently won the Nobel Peace Prize.

When she’s not working (which is rare), Rona is usually found in the Rockies horseback riding, hiking or skiing with her husband, JP, and three kids.

Unlike some, I will wait to see proof that he did indeed use party funds. If he did, then it was more than stupid and he should be sanctioned by the party for doing so and pay back every single cent.
what fun would that be? ;)
