Today is the 40th anniversary of the release of The Beatles Double White Album. A masterpiece...

Risus,

Do you know what the Beatles were really trying to say by calling it `the White` album?

Actually the album is just called 'The Beatles'. The public called it the White Album.

It was the first album the Beatles recorded after the death of Brian Epstein. It was also the first recorded on the Apple label, the first Beatle album with other musicians on it, notably Eric Clapton. It was also the first album recorded with Yoko Ono in attendance. (who in my opinion was the cause of the split of the group).

Risus that is all true but I read somewhere that `white` was proposed by Lennon as the album being `nothing`.
I cannot confirm or deny, just a rumour.

I haven't heard anything about that. I know that the group was unhappy and ready to split. Both Ringo and George walked out of the studio for a few days while the album was being recorded.

Well if Yoko was there John would be on her side...maybe the genesis of the breakup.

For the short time that they were together they will go down in history books.

Are you lucky enough to own the album, Risus(I mean the actual record, not on CD or anything new like that)?

It is hard to believe that it has been 40 years now. I'm not even that old!:lol:8O

Yes, I have the album. In fact I have all the albums (LPs) The Beatles have released in North America.

I can still remember the first time I heard one of their songs.

Hopefully they are insured, as I think that particular album is worth quite a lot of money isn't it?8O

And I thought you were younger than me!

LOL, I'm a grumpy old man!
I have over 1000 vinyl LPs, covered by just regular home content insurance. Not worth a whole lot, more sentimental value than monitary. I also have all the Led Zeppelin, Genesis and Pink Floyd vinyl.

Risus,

Buy new. They are back in vogue with a lot of artists going back to vinyl which, with a good turntable sounds better than digital. Older stuff was played with on CD. Vinyl was the way it was recorded and should stay that way.
