This graph shows the number of fires and the total number of hectares burned each year in BC since online records began in 2002.

If BC was to experience a climate change the ground cover would change to match that. What kinds of trees are native to California like weather. Current BC weather would move to the north so some part of the coast of Alaska should become wetter and warmer and snow free for the most part.
That isn't an extinction like change unless you refuse to adapt to the change, for some that means moving.

Disneyland moves to Victoria. Oh wait! Mickey already resides there.

We are in a fifty year drought cycle happens somewhere all the time. The dirty thirties
it was the Prairie and we have had dry spells before. The problem is now we have a
hundred times more people and infrastructure. The climate is constantly changing and
will continue to do so. Middle ages it was cool now its hot soon we will be back int the
cool cycle again.
For those spreading the climate and global warming thing Oh look here come Chicken
Little now.

There are several cycles, both terrestrial and solar that sometimes overlap and there are geological events that can happen at anytime.

A lot of it has to do with people having short memories too. The word here is we are in a drought unseen hear in recent times. Back on January 4 we had the heaviest snowfall since 1937.

We are experiencing an el nino. It won't be permanent. These fires are all part in parcel of life and death. Life will go on.

At the end of July I thought I was screwed for decent crop. Even my lawn was dead. I went away for two weeks and came home to my lawn 8" and desperate for a cut and grain kernels on the farm filing out nicely. No record crop but I won't be hurting this winter.

In the long run Mother Nature is generally in control. (Might be tough to convince folks in California)

Mulcair said they (fires) were because of Global warming when in Naniamo today.

Does he not know of el nino or is he lying?

I doubt if he was lying.........................you have to know something to be able to lie. :) Back in the day, Nanaimo was a C.C.F. stronghold, but I'm not sure if that would cut much ice for the N.D.P. today with Mulcair at the helm.

He knows. He lied. He is using fear mongering to gain support. Do you think he'll mention global warming when in AB or SK? Justin wasn't stupid enough to mention it the other day. Is Tommy?

I think he's like a duck out of water once he goes west of Quebec. I think he figures he can cut ice in AB because Rachel Notley was able to (albeit likely temporarily).

Only as far the daily head count goes and money spent at local businesses.
Actually was promoting getting property near 100Mile Beach on the West Coast would be the place to 'homestead' in that area. Sooke offers a faster line to the open Pacific.
Might have to look at the regs and see if some fishing trawlers can be turned into a Casino/brothel if you go so far out to sea. Both buy tickets and the ladies leave the 'staff' suitable tips that just happens to be what the charge would be if it was legal.

The inner straight would be more like the Bay at SF for how busy it would be.

El Nino does heat up the Gulf of Alaska, something else is at work and it is big enough to change the 'local weather'.

Do you think the spite voters will think twice?

A lot of them won't, they hate Harper on general principals, but they will cancel each other out between Mulcair and Jr. maybe ending up with a 29 - 29 -40 split, and 2% for the Green. It would be interesting to know how Harper has affected them personally!! The oil crash has NOTHING to do with him. It will be interesting for sure.

Yeah it's called the PDO with an overlapping el nino making it massive. Any questions?

Nobody said they were smart, just spiteful. They have no idea why they don't like him beyond being told to.

Sheeple as Clitford calls them.

Yeah, we are used to fires in BC.

Climate's changed some around here. It used to be quite a bit drier. Not as dry as the Okanagan, but drier and it is more humid now, too. We used to get colder winters with a LOT more snow. And in the decades we've been here, the temp has never hit 40C .... except for this year.

As far as I can discover, climates have not changed as quickly as in the past couple hundred years or so. Go figure.

And although California has had longer droughts (keep in mind this one isn't over yet either), ground conditions have not been this dry since the 9th century, apparently. hehe There are folks that actually count tree rings hehe ( California's Worst Drought Ever Is 1st Taste of Future )

Anyways, yup, we have fires around here. The smoke was pretty heavy last night. I'm not sure if that is what woke me or not, but it was sure noticeable.
