Gomez would be a great addition, he is from Alaska, and played his junior hockey in
B.C., and has ties to the west coast, not to mention that he is a great player.

He would be a good addition.

I'm really tired of the Sundin thing, I know it's really not his fault, as the media are
the ones who built it up to such a frenzy, but he obviously hasn't been very excited
about anyone's team, only in his personal time, so, I am only interested in the
canucks personal time, and whatever he does now, I really don't care, and if he comes
to vancouver, I won't really care, only that, for the money he will be making he better
play well, and he has waited so long, apparantly isn't skating yet, just working out, so
at 38, one would think he should be skating a while ago.

I'm a believer that anyone who goes to the top in their field does it with passion. I don't sense he has much of that left. I'd rather see good money go to someone who has a desire to win that is obvious.

Yeah, i agree. He is engaged to be married, and the rumour that he wants to go to the
Rangers makes sense to me, wouldn't that be a nice way to spend the first two years as
newlyweds, by living in New York City, then back to Sweden for the rest of their lives.
So, the decision will be one of hockey/money/lifestyle/easy travel.

Remember the '82 Canucks? They had a hot goalie and they had a leader that tried harder than anyone. I can't think of anyone that ever fought harder in the corners than Stan Smyl. He brought energy and leadership. Talentwise he was middle of the road, but I'd take a guy like him any day than a half-hearted talent.

p.s. - it's no coincidence that Smyl is the only guy in junior history to play in four straight memorial cups.

Yeah, that's right, hopefully we'll see some of that 'heart' come alive in a few of our
new young guys, it's a new era starting for the canucks, new stars and leaders will be
born, I'm looking forward to the next couple of years, and Gillis isn't finished yet, so
whatever else he does will improve the club too.
I think Mitchell has been asked to be 'acting' captain for awhile, not permanent.

The retirement of center Trevor Linden truly ushered in a new era for the Vancouver Canucks.

It was no surprise that when center Cody Hodgson was still on the board at No. 10 at the 2008 Entry Draft, the Canucks quickly plucked the 18-year-old - who is already drawing comparisons to Vancouver's former captain. Hodgson had 40 goals and 45 assists for the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League in 2007-08.

"Character, integrity ... he's been a winner all the way up," Vancouver General Manager Mike Gillis said of Hodgson. "He has a lot of great features, we're really pleased."

You will like it.....read Mike Boone, he is a hilarious and hates "The Don" and Gary. If you go to this site during a game he does a play by play that is very amusing, they also have a podcast that is interesting.

Iginla leads Western goal parade
Jarome Iginla led the offensive charge in the Western Conference. His 50 goals and 98 points were highs in the West and third overall in the League. Jarome Iginla highlights
Last season, everyone chased Alex Ovechkin.

Goals, shots, points -- if you played in the NHL in 2007-08, he was the gold standard. And he was the winner of more hardware than most other teams -- save, perhaps, the Detroit Red Wings -- earned as a group.

That's not my job, I'm not looking for chat so much, as I am supplying information at
the moment, and when the season starts I'm sure there will lots to chit chat about.
My post today is to let everyone, who is interested, know about the winter classic,
that doesn't really call for a reply, unless one wants to give one.
I'm sure a few people checked the post out, found out about the winter classic, then
signed out, that's OK.

Talloola is the moderator of this thread. She provides information to the ignorant. She knows a lot about the game and we are lucky to have her.

Team Canada names Quinn

Dan Rosen | NHL.com Staff Writer
Sep 4, 2008, 4:58 PM EDT

National Junior Tem coach on Thursday. Hockey Canada went against the grain this time, but by dipping into a different well of qualified coaches the staff fished out a grizzled veteran who without a doubt knows how to get the most out of 22 prized teenagers.

I don't think there is a more knowledgable hockey man out there than Pat Quinn.. The Vancouver management never appreciated the talent of this man. Quinn, among others, has run into that old reality that it is easier to fire the coach than 18 players.

I really liked him best as a coach, as opposed to the general manager, and yes, I agree,
he should have been the canuck coach much longer than he was, but, as you say,
same ole same ole, the coach is always the first to go.
He seems to be enjoying working with these young players, and he's got that spark back
in his eyes again, as he loves it so much, can't stand being on the sidelines.
He should do well with this team it will be a strong one.
