I agree. Wait time guarantees at what cost to other operations?

I don't know why they simply don't stop the facade and sign partnerships with private clinics to get people the help they need. In a timely fashion. Some of this is already happening. It needs to be expanded and it shouldn't mean the death of public health care. Furthermore, if the government is able to cut a deal and guarantee steady business for such clinics, we might actually save money while doing so.

I agree.

A combo of private and public health care is the "ONLY" option left for Canada.

The thing is our healthcare is allready a mix of the two. I think if we're going to bring in more private clinics, there ought to be a service charge or something against private clinics. A lot of money goes into training MD's, and obviously we couldn't have a free for all into the private sector. That would be a brain drain on our public system.

More citizens using private clinics means less using the publicly funded services, ie shorter waits. Additionally, the extra fees could provide more dollars to improve the public system.

A few years ago the PQ party, goverment at the time , did an incredible mistake. To save money in the health care system they got rid of the most experienced doctors and nurses, early retirement package. Everyone took it to the governments surprise. So we through money at them to retire and we became short staffed in the process. Bunch of genius they are ! It cost us more and we got way less in return. Bunch of Bozo's , and they want to seperate to live better as a country. IDIOTS
It takes 10 years to train a doctor. MORONS
The next big Idea is a mega hospital, Oh yeah thats going to work well, it hasn't started yet and the price has already risen.......

So why does it take 10 years to train a doctor? I know we're all regulation mad and certificate crazy in Canada but why ten years? I should think if you're smart and committed you could learn all you need to know to become an excellent general practitioner in three. A specialist - again if you're smart and committed - five years. More than that is just a waste of smarts and talent.

My mother had a liver opration this January, gull stones. Her family doctor said before she got the operation that it didn't affect her digestion. They spent 30 hrs learning about the digestive sytem. Boy she was glad to get a second opinion, her situation was criticle and could of gotten worst. So yeah what do they learn if it takes 10 years?

OK you go ahead and learn all you need to know in 3 years and we'll believe you. A basic BSc in human biology will take 3 years, then you need to add research, which takes at least another 3, more like 5... i'd say 8 years is minimum. 3 is rediculous

Don't forget the internships. You can't have doctors out there dispensing advice, cutting people open, diagnosing symptoms without an adequate level of experience.

exactly. You'd have to be awake for the whole time without ever using the toilet to get it all done in 3 years, and you'd still be a crap doctor.
