Just heard on C.B.C. news that Fernie (pop under 5,000) needs an influx of workers to service the tourist industry as they get 300,000 tourists a year and there is nowhere near enough staff to handle them all. That would free up space in Vancouver in all aspects of the rat race.

Is it possible to earn a decent living in the tourist industry?

Sell your house in Fernie and put a down payment on a trailer under a bridge in Surrey!

Who would that benefit?

Is it possible to earn a decent living in the tourist industry?

Depends, I think if you sold your house in Vancouver (for probably somewhere between 750 grand and $1 million and bought one in Fernie for $300 grand and wisely invested the difference, you could live well on $10 - $15 an hour for quite awhile, possibly until you retire.

Probably, I think most tourists are used to tipping.

Sell your house in Fernie and put a down payment on a trailer under a bridge in Surrey!

Which bridge would you recommend?

Is it year round? Most resort towns are struggling with getting employees now that the FWP has been put on hold.

I guess I was specifically referencing Brownsville, which is next to the Pattullo.

Maybe when the new bridge is fully approved Brownsvill will be purchased by the city. they're going to need extra land.

If Fernie is desperate for workers you could presumably make more than minimum wage doing a minimum wage level job. But **** it, move to Fernie, unionize the ski instructors, seize the means of production (clouds).

Nobody making $12 an hour in Vancouver has a house to sell unless they inheirited it. Even then utities, cable, taxes, transportation and maintenance would leave you starving.
