Toronto Mayor Rob Ford 'to get help for substance abuse'

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was stripped of many of his political powers following an admission of drug use while in office

Controversial Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is to take a leave of absence to seek help for substance abuse, his lawyer says.

Dennis Morris said his client acknowledged he had an abuse problem and wanted to do something about it.

Mr Ford, who is seeking re-election in October, has been stripped of many of his powers after admitting using and purchasing illegal drugs while mayor.

He admitted last year to smoking crack cocaine in a "drunken stupor".

His admission, following months of denials, came after police said they had obtained a video that appeared to show him taking the illegal drug.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford: In his own words
The Toronto Sun quotes Mr Ford as saying he is "ready to take a break" from the election campaign to "go get help."

He told the newspaper he was being urged to not leave the mayoral race by people around him.

"He acknowledges he has a substance abuse problem and he wants to do something about it,'' Mr Morris told the Associated Press news agency.

The newspaper said it had obtained a new audio recording of him making abusive comments about other politicians.

Videos have emerged in recent months showing him ranting obscenely in an apparently intoxicated state.

Allegations have also surfaced in police documents that Mr Ford used racially abusive language, threatened staff, sexually propositioned a female colleague, and snorted cocaine in a restaurant. He denies these allegations.

Mr Ford was first elected in 2010 to lead Canada's largest city on a pledge to tackle wasteful spending at city hall. He draws much of his support from the suburban areas of Toronto.

He soon privatised rubbish collection across much of the city and did away with a vehicle tax, but quickly became bogged down in disputes with the council.

'Track record'
In the fallout from the drugs scandal, the city council stripped Mr Ford of most of his mayoral powers and his budget, rendering him effectively mayor in name only, analysts say.

But Mr Ford has brushed aside pressure to quit, saying voters will decide whether to keep him in office in the October election. He has said his "track record speaks for itself", and recent polls show him running in contention with his chief challengers.

Toronto's mayoral candidates, from left to right: Karen Stintz, John Tory, Olivia Chow, David Soknacki and Rob Ford

The Toronto mayor faces serious challenges from centre-right candidate John Tory, a broadcaster and former member of the provincial parliament, and former New Democratic Party (NDP) MP Olivia Chow.

Mr Tory has released a "Code of Conduct" in which he vows to "respect and defend our laws, not break them", and to "show up for work each day", in a clear rebuke to Mr Ford's recent behaviour.

Ms Chow has told the BBC that Mr Ford's "performance as a mayor is a failure".

Karen Stintz, a city councillor, and David Soknacki, a former councillor, are also running.

Ford embarrassing us all again

Canada's highest profile politician has just been caught once again smoking crack, he was also seen recently acting in a very incoherent manner after spending about an hour in restaurant bathroom in Vancouver recently.

Rob Ford takes leave as recent drug videos emerge - The Globe and Mail

A second video of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smoking what has been described as crack cocaine by a self-professed drug dealer was secretly filmed in his sister’s basement early Saturday morning.

The clip, which was viewed by two Globe and Mail reporters, shows Mr. Ford taking a drag from a long copper-coloured pipe, exhaling a cloud of smoke and then frantically shaking his right hand. The footage is part of a package of three videos that the drug dealer says he surreptitiously shot around 1:15 a.m., and which he says he is now selling for “at least six figures.”

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...fords-night-out-in-vancouver/article16763774/

The Toronto Star quotes an unidentified witness as saying Ford went into a tiny staff washroom at the Foggy Dew pub in Coquitlam last weekend only to emerge more than an hour later “talking gibberish” and appearing impaired.

The witness told the newspaper that it took some time before Ford was able to speak to restaurant staff coherently and says he then ordered rounds of beers, rum-and-cokes and shots with three people after the pub was closed and patrons cleared out.

This is the guy who has stated he'd like to be PM one day, when did standards drop so low in this country? If he wasn't a trust fund baby he'd probably be in jail or dead by now.

Both Rob and Doug Ford are also now two of Canada's most well established liars after all the nonsense we've been hearing from them about the Toronto Mayor's drug abuse for over a year.

The man is also a complete pig.

Rob Ford Rehab: Toronto Mayor To Take Break To 'Deal With His Issues'

In the audio recording described by the Toronto Sun as “raunchy”, Ford was caught on tape making off-colour comments about Councillor Karen Stintz: “I’d like to f**king jam her, but she doesn’t want … I can’t talk like this … I’m so sorry.”

Looks like there may be one of the grossest sex videos ever floating around out there.

Rob Ford sex tape now possible

Let's all thank the conservative government and their support of this sad excuse of a person for making this ongoing debacle possible. Harper's fishing buddy indeed.

Gone fishin’: Ford and Harper’s Harrington Lake trip - The Globe and Mail

More evidence of the very poor judgement of the man who is supposed to be running this country considering all the other scandals around the Harper government.

What an *******, after dragging this nation through the gutter for months he plans to move to California when he retires from politics.

Mayor Rob Ford 'ready to take a break' | EXCLUSIVE | Toronto & GTA | News | Toro

This is a glaring reason why wealth and power are supposed to be limited when accessing power in a democracy. People like Ford end up being above the law and any social conventions and destabilize the entire system. What kind of example does it set when the Mayor of our largest city acts this way with no real consequence?

All our PM has to say seems to be about concern for Ford, what about concern for what this is doing to Canada as a nation?

How about finally seeing some real ethics and sense of a moral compass from the highest office in this country, instead of further covering of the governmental backside.

This video of a child using the same tactics as Ford to avoid answering questions about his drug use put's this into stark perspective.

YouTube video mocks Rob Ford's crack cocaine excuses | Toronto Star

What does it say to everyone when someone so prominent can bull**** us for so long about what is also so obvious to everyone. Basically Ford's message to young Canadians is "you can do what you like as long as you can avoid the consequences by whatever means available" such a wonderful message for the next generation.

Basically what this all confirms is that Rob and Doug Ford place themselves and their interests far above that of both Toronto and Canada as a whole. Rob Ford could have admitted his substance abuse issues when the existence of a video was revealed last year instead of denying it and playing out a sad farce for a year. Or better yet he could have sought help before ever entering politics so that he would be able to represent his constituents in a responsible manner.

Instead both brothers chose to act as bullies and liars in their interest and now one of the least suitable role models is now the most prominent image many people around the world see of Canada.

What an *******, after dragging this nation through the gutter for months he plans to move to California when he retires from politics.

This first sentence exemplifies how utterly inept you are. He drug the nation through the gutter? Really? The nation? You must be a Torontonian? One who thinks that if T.O. is not the center of the Universe it is at the very least the "center of Canada.

Please...

Aside from Cobalt Kid's usual spamorama.

I hope Ford is seeking help, he certainly has addiction issues and is not fit to sit in any position of government service. I find his brothers comments, though spoken with great emotion, to be very hollow.

It is after all, Doug Ford who has propped his brother up throughout all of the controversy which would make him one hell of an enabler. Rob Ford doesn't deserve the pity of the people, like most addicts he has exploited the good will of those around him, but I hope he finds his way out of this.

Addiction is a tough animal and I think Olivia Chow summed it up in her response to the news about Ford.

It’s clear Mr. Ford is sick. He has serious substance abuse problems. I am sure everyone in our city joins me in extending hopes for him as a person to recover from this sickness.

The problem with addicts is that they don't care who they hurt and usually don't come around until they hit rock bottom. I don't know if Rob Ford has hit bottom yet, but he is not fit to be Mayor of Toronto. He should be let go asap possible.

BREAKING: The Beaverton has received a videotape of Rob Ford not smoking crack

TORONTO- In a shocking twist, the Beaverton had received an exclusive video of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford not smoking crack cocaine, stumbling drunkenly, or shouting any ethnic slurs.

In spite of the numerous recordings of Ford that depict him smoking crack, drunk in public, belittling minorities, uttering homophobic slurs, smoking crack again, and slipping on a football field, this new video reportedly shows the mayor sitting in his office and reading a policy briefing.

The video then shows the Mayor picking up what appears to be a pen and signing a document not related to illicit substances or legal documents regarding him being sued.

"This is unprecedented for Ford," said reporter Robyn Doolittle, who broke the story that Ford had been caught on tape last May smoking crack, and then broke the other story that Ford was caught on tape this week smoking more crack. "I mean, I've seen Rob Ford do and smoke some pretty shocking things. But to witness him, completely unaware that he was being taped, genuinely doing some work? I can only assume this is part of some brilliant, Machiavellian political strategy.”

Ford Nation was quick to rush to the Mayor’s aid, insisting that any video of Ford reading a policy briefing must have been faked. On the pro-Ford Facebook group “I Hate The War On Rob Ford”, commenter FordMoreBeers wrote, “Definitely a photoshop by the lie-beral media! My man Ford was sent down to city hall to drive the latte-sippin elites crazy and party all night! Not do boring work. The first tipoff that it’s fake is where it says Robbie was reading. NO WAY THAT’S REALLY HIM!!!”

“This is the most politically biased video I’ve ever seen,” said city councillor and Ford campaign manager, Doug Ford. “There’s no way Rob was caught on video doing whatever thing it is he’s accused of today. I’m gonna see someone in court for accusing the people’s mayor of doing whatever thing it is he is alleged to have done this time.” After being informed of the latest Ford video’s shockingly benign subject matter, a visibly tired Doug Ford began handing out twenty dollar bills to the assembled reporters.

At press time, the Re-elect Mayor Rob Ford Campaign was right on schedule.

I'm not so sure that this is as big of a deal as some are making it out to be. 99.99% of politicians are addicted to something, with most it's greed and with others it's themselves.

Big Rob
Big Rob

Ev'ry mornin' at the bar you could see him arrive
He stood six foot one and weighed three forty five
Kinda broad at the shoulder and thick at the hip
And everybody knew, ya didn't give no lip to Big Rob

(Big Rob, Big Rob)
Big Bad Rob
(Big Rob)

Nobody seemed to know where Rob called home
He just drifted into town and drank all alone
He didn't say sorry, he kinda evil and wry
And if you spoke at all, ya just said, "Hi" to Big Rob

Somebody said he came from Etobikoke
Where he got in a fight over a jar of blow
And a crashin' blow from a huge right hand
Sent a homosexual feller to the Promised Land, Big Rob

(Big Rob, Big Rob)
Big Bad Rob
(Big Rob)

Then came the day when he ran out of wine
When a brother sold him crack and men started lyin'
Assistants were prayin' and hearts beat fast
And everybody thought that they'd breathed their last, 'cept Rob

Through the dust and the smoke of this man made hell
Walked a giant of a man that the voters knew well
Grabbed a giant doobie, gave out with a groan
And like a giant Oak tree, he just stood there alone, Big Rob

(Big Rob, Big Rob)
Big Bad Rob
(Big Rob)

And with all of his strength he took a mighty toke
Then a stoolie yelled out, "There's a chopper up above"
And twenty crack dealers scrambled from a would-be grave
Now there's only one left down there to save, Big Rob

With bobbleheads and Hogan they started back down
Then came that rumble way down in the ground
And then smoke and gas belched out of that blob
Everybody knew it was the end of the line for Big Rob

(Big Rob, Big Rob)
Big Bad Rob
(Big Rob)

Now they never ever spoke to that worthless s h i t
They just placed a marble bowl in front of it
These few words are written on that bong
At the bottom of this mess lies a big, ding dong, Big Rob

(Big Rob, Big Rob)
Big Bad Rob
(Big Rob)
(Big Rob)
Big Bad Rob

thanks for the idea jimmy.

Rob Ford beat pal Sandro Lisi on night of crack video, claims man who shot it
Drug dealer who recorded new video says the mayor pummelled the friend charged with extortion over trying to retrieve the first video. Lisi was “crying like a baby.”

Mayor Rob Ford assaulted friend Sandro Lisi and repeatedly used a highly offensive racial slur on the night he was filmed smoking crack cocaine, according to the 20-year-old drug dealer who shot the recent video.

Ford repeatedly used the n-word to refer to the drug dealer, and described former Toronto Community Housing boss Eugene Jones, whom he supports, with the same word, the man alleged.

“No n----- gets fired in my town. When I get re-elected that n----- is going to be back in charge,” Ford said, according to the dealer’s account of the night.

So in Ford's mind Toronto is his town and he's going to make sure all the (offensive racial term) are treated with respect.

Rob Ford's rehab stint mocked on late-night TV - Toronto - CBC News

David Letterman wonders how a Canadian mayor can get away with this and still keep his job, asking if he's a friend of the Queen. I guess Ford's close relationship with Harper may qualify him for that title, Harper does seem to have delusions of grandeur and he seems unwilling to take any real stand on this travesty.

I guess if you're Harper's kind of guy which apparently Rob Ford is, then it's perfectly acceptable to wish him well and keep ignoring the slime this jerk is covering the entire nation with as he continues his descent into the deeper levels of depravity.

Prime Minister’s office ‘pleased’ Rob Ford plans to enter rehab - Toronto | Globalnews.ca

TORONTO – The Prime Minister’s office has weighed in on Mayor Rob Ford’s leave of absence from his role to seek rehabilitation for an alcohol problem.

Stephen Harper’s office issued a brief statement, saying “the mayor’s comments and behaviour are very troubling.”

“We are pleased to hear the mayor has entered rehab to seek treatment for his addiction.”

Where the hell has Harper been for the past year on this?

For his next act perhaps Ford could eat a baby while talking in a funny Scots accent al la Mike Meyer's Fat Bastard. We're so lucky to have such impressive cultural icons here.

Doug Ford stands by his brother Rob during leave of absence | Globalnews.ca

“This is not an easy thing for anyone to do especially when you’re the mayor of the city,” Ford said during a press conference Thursday morning at city hall.

“As an older brother, I am relieved that Rob has faced his problems and has decided to seek professional help.”

Yes let's all feel bad for the drug addicted, racist, abusive, rich, politically connected mayor who should never have been allowed into civic politics in the first place.

I also wonder as a likely former drug dealer himself, how Doug Ford feels about the business possibly losing such a valued client.

I'm not sure what went on in the Ford home to produce such massive losers, but anyone who thinks this represents the real Canada is insane.
