Scotland has just witnessed the biggest marching army of ugly gingers since the Scottish Wars of Independence:

Redheads stage Ginger Pride march at Edinburgh Fringe

10th August 2013

Hitchins led scores of marchers through the streets of the Scottish capital. Scotland is home to a fifth of the world's gingers

People with red hair have shown their true colours in a march through Edinburgh.

It had been billed as the UK's first Ginger Pride Walk and was part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Marchers gathered outside the Balmoral Hotel from 11:00, with the event being led by Canadian comedian and proud redhead, Shawn Hitchins.

He said it was a fun way to stand up against prejudice and those who poke fun at people with ginger hair.

Scotland is said to be home to almost a fifth of the world's redheads.

Speaking ahead of the march, Hitchins said: "Even although it isn't a real word, gingerism exists and bullying exists and you can't deny that kids are being subjected to taunts or being bullied in schools just for having red hair.

"In Canada there's not a lot of redheads, and for me as a really ridiculously gay kid, having red hair only heightened my sense of isolation because nobody looked like me, nobody lisped like me or burnt under the sun like I did."

The comedian said he was not sure how many people were likely to take part in the march, adding: "I hope its not just me - and I hope it doesn't look like the battle scene in Braveheart."

The event has generated a considerable amount of online interest, with Hitchins admitting he had been surprised at the number of ginger websites, blogs and activists.

He added: "They've all been in touch with me. It's almost like I've opened a door and realised there was an actual party on the other side.

"One day this week I was approached by a priest who came over, grabbed my shoulder said 'I love what you're doing with your affirmation march' and gave me two thumbs up."

Slogans prepared for the parade were said to include "Ginger and proud", "For the love of ginger", and "All hail! The red, orange and pale."

Gay pride, ginger pride... Hey, what about me... What about male pride, or Canadian pride, or short-haired pride, human pride, veggie pride, white pride, I could fit into one of those at least.

I watch with bated breath waiting for the march of the left handed people.
We are discriminated against in everything from traffic to the way doors open
this has to stop we need equal rights for left handed people. We deserve
economic compensation as well because the education system at one time
tried to force us to be right handed people. I am not saying left handed people
are better but some of the great people in history were left handed and the
right handed society has discriminated against us.
What can we wear? Ginger wigs have been taken and the gay movement has
already use the pink plastic Fairy Godmother outfits.
Even caps with the brim on the left side have been taken by boarders and kids
what is left to wear for our event?
We need a uniform and we need a slogan any ideas?

My Mum was a leftie, DG so I am well aware of the how the world is made for righties. When she was little going to school in Scotland, they used to tie her left hand behind her back and force her to use her right hand - thank heavens those days are gone.

My dad went and had a talk with the principal who wanted all lefties to switch.
Didn't happen.

Back in the days you could go to the principal and come to "some agreement". Ain't life tough enough ??

"Nucked?" Is that some of that charming Cockney rhyming slang?

Yeah. It's Cockney rhyming sland for "f**ked".

Here's some more Cockney rhyming slang:

Look at those sweaties with their ginger barnets on their loaves and their ugly boat races on a ball of chalk to show their pride at being ginger. They look like they've never set their mince pies on a Cape of Good Hope. How they have the comic cuts to march down the field of wheat with their ginger barnets is a mystery to me. I suppose they just want people to be apples and spice to them. I hope they suffer terrible blisters on their plates of meat. At least they didn't cause Barney Rubble but I hope somebody kicked them up the bottle and glass and told them not to do it again.

Translation:

Look at those Scots with their ginger hair on their heads and their ugly faces on a walk to show their pride at being ginger. They look like they've never set eyes on a bar of soap. How they have the guts to march down the street with their ginger hair is a mystery to me. I suppose they just want people to be nice to them. I hope they suffer terrible blisters on their feet. At least they didn't cause trouble but I hope somebody kicked them up the *** and told them not to do it again.
