you're correct in saying that benzene is a common contaminant in ethanol, but usually at very low levels. The fact that the alcohol is described as "100%" means that it's less than 0.5%. And believe me ethanol is the toxin in ethanol. Benzene sure is a toxin too, though, you're right.

My point here is that I'm trying to tell people to be careful with alcohol. It's fun, sure, right but it's also downright bloody dangerous when concentrated. It's toxic and kills people. Particularly people who didn't respect it, passed out, and had friends too nonchalant to think "hang on, he's not moving, perhaps we'd better look after him". In fact a more common response to alcohol poisoning in men is to put them in funny positions and draw all over them with marker pens and immac their eyebrows.

Unf I know what you're getting at but i'm not arguing this to argue with you, i'm just trying to put forth a case for being a little more careful with "moonshine" and other concentrated alcoholic "drinks"
I get it, and you must understand that we're old hands at this stage and know far more than when we were foolish enough to play some risky games. I have a healthy respect for all things that alter perception and now know my own limits and the warning signs of someone getting in over their head.

This is part of the reason why with my own kids I work at having an open dialog about this and drugs so that they don't have to play around with it to figure out exactly how far is just too far. I think it's a problem for some to have no access at all and to be told it's forbidden, then one day the doors open and they can have all they can afford. More people are killed directly and indirectly, suddenly and slowly by alcohol that it's a huge problem that doesn't really get addressed.

A quick blurb about drinking responsibly at the end of a commercial that tells young people just how great drinking is at solving problems doesn't do much at all.

Well, if you want to get technical...
Actually, there hasn't been a cloud in the sky here since Thursday, once Noel disappeared up the east coast.

We were on Cocoa Beach on Friday and there were 20ft waves. Never seen anything like up close.
The backwash almost drags you in.

I loved this sign on the beach: "Containers of alcoholic beverages on the beach are limited to one gallon". And another: "You flick it, we ticket" pertaining to littering. Not a scrap of litter on the beach.

Canada has a lot to learn about policing the beaches...

Ha! Or any American beer...

Anhauser Busch has a very nice stout that is close to a Guinness as I've seen anywhere though so it seems they're learning. And at Busch Gardens and Seaworld they have FREE beer in the hospitality pavilions! More lessons for Canada.

We were at Jimmy Buffet's Margueritaville bar last night (second time this trip) and it is spectacular!
They have a Marguerita Menu, girls on stilts, an erupting beer volcano (the "lava" fills a huge mug) and great bands. Trev and I want to quit our day jobs and get a house gig...

Yeah, there were a lot of surfers with more guts/less brains than me out there.
I find it amazing that they disappear between the waves only to reappear surfing out of the tunnel.

We did a trip to the Gulf coast and hit Clearwater Beach which was much nicer for those of us who do our surfing on a PC. It was still overcast from the storm last week so we're planning one more run out there before the week is out, likely Saturday.

I prefer the west coast beaches for the sunsets and the sand which is as fine as powdered sugar.

I'd say the weather here is perfect this week. Sunny, moderately hot (what's 78F in celcius? I've been here so long I forget) and low humidity.

And get this...I'm home for one day and then off to Phoenix Arizona for a week on business!

Yes, that excruciating period of time between the bed and the coffee cup affects me the same way.

My family, pets, and furniture have learned never to come between us...

I hear ya. I am not a morning person at the best of times. I like quiet and coffee for at least two hours. Although my mood picks up considerably once it is in my hand.

See, I am becoming more human by the sip.
