Northern Gateway hopes dashed as Canada moves to ban oil tankers off B.C. coast

CALGARY – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s federal government is following through on an election promise to ban crude oil tanker traffic off the coast of northern British Columbia, a move which observers say would effectively kill the Northern Gateway pipeline.

Trudeau published his mandate letters to each of member of his cabinet Friday and asked Transport Minister Marc Garneau to “formalize a moratorium on crude oil tanker traffic on British Columbia’s North Coast, working in collaboration with the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Minister of Natural Resources and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to develop an approach.”

Vancouver-based energy lawyer with Watson Goepel LLP Warren Brazier said a moratorium on crude tankers off B.C.’s North Coast “would impact, definitely, the Gateway project.”

Enbridge, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment, received regulatory approval for its 1,100-kilometre pipeline between Alberta and Kitimat, B.C. in 2014. The company had been planning to build a pipeline at a cost of $7.9 billion to export unrefined crude oil off the coast of B.C.

Brazier said the way the mandate letter is worded, there could still be room to export refined crude oil from the North Coast as B.C. newspaper executive David Black has proposed with his Kitimat Clean project.

All those things can be made from hemp oil. Hemp oil plastics are superior and biodegradable. The only reason we need oil is for lubrication. Stock up on Vaseline and KY jelly.

You're are a fukking idiot..

The world uses 71.7 million barrels of oil a day, the US 17 million barrels a day. Yearly we are talking 26.1 billion barrels for the world and 6.2 billion barrels of oil for the US.

So let's do the math here:

1 pound of dry hemp is the equivalent of 2 ounces of oil. There is 42 gallons of oil in one barrel.

Converted, 128 ounces is the equivalent to 1 gallons.

128/2=64

64 pounds of hemp for 1 gallon of oil.

64*42=2688

2688 pounds for 1 barrel of Hemp Oil.

To meet the demand of oil for the world DAILY:

2688*71.7mil=192.7bil

192.7 BILLION pounds of hemp a day.

Now for the US Daily ALONE:

2688*17=45.6bil

That's 45.6 Billion pounds of Hemp that would have to be produced DAILY for the U.S..

For the world Yearly:

2688*26.1bil=70.1tril

70.1 TRILLION POUNDS OF HEMP??? No f'n way possible. The US is a similiar figure, 16.6 trillion. There is no way the earth is capable of handling this massive output of farming for resources.

The biggest crop in the US is corn, amounting to 87.8 million acres, producing about 2 billion pounds a year.

...........................

Now here's a tube of KY for you...

There are plenty of other alternatives as well.

We can sustainably reduce our dependence while the transition takes place.

Won't happen in your life time... so don't worry about it.

You'll be worm bait long before the world get's off it's oil addiction.

Trudeau just destroyed the Northern Gateway pipeline in one sentence

Justin Trudeau killed off the Northern Gateway pipeline today. In the mandate letter to his Transportation Minister Marc Garneau, Trudeau told him to "formalize a moratorium on crude oil tanker traffic on British Columbia's North Coast."

Of course, what Trudeau really means is that he wants to ban tankers that would have shipped oil that would have been brought to the coast by the Northern Gateway pipeline.

He's not against OPEC oil, of course.

This move is a moratorium on Alberta oil.

Trudeau's father brought in the National Energy Program that also targeted the Western provinces.

He's be proud of his son today.

Well, I guess eastern Canada will continue buying oil from the kind of people funding what happened in Paris, and our new PM will keep on flying their undercover army in on our tax dollars. But hey, we're getting the government we voted for I guess.

I wonder how they will get their oil on the Queen Charlotte Islands now ? And a lot of other small coastal communities along the coast ? I guess the Haida and Shimpsan can freeze in the dark .

Rockefeller's ESSO barges trucks to the QCIs where it is then distributed by a native run company who ensures they burn ALL the oil. No waste.

Too bad just-in didn't have the same feelings about the city he lives in dumping $hit into the river.
This is nothing more than a quebecker getting even with Alberta for moving the Canadian power base west.

Peter Zeihan says Alberta would be better off as 51st U.S. state

Maybe British Columbia will join us.. ;)

Never forget about 54-40 parallel north line, Port Simpson, and some lands (claims) that belonged to USA in 1818 to 1846.

Not interested in being part of yanky land. But Cascadia is looking much more appealing with every day just-in is in power.
