I loved his acting, we've lost another mans man. RIP dear heart.

Square-jawed actor Jack Palance, who won an Oscar late in his career in the comedy City Slickers, died Friday. He was 87.
Palance died of natural causes in his home in Montecito, Calif., surrounded by family, said spokesman Dick Guttman.

The veteran actor made a name for himself playing a villain in films such as Shane and Sudden Fear before turning to comedy later in his career.
Palance, who appeared in many Westerns through the years, finally won an Oscar in the Billy Crystal comedy City Slickers at the age of 70.
Upon winning the award, Palance demonstrated his physical prowess by doing a series of one-handed push-ups.
"That's nothing, really," he said. "As far as two-handed push-ups, you can do that all night, and it doesn't make a difference whether she's there or not."

Working life began in coal mines
The actor came by his tough guy roles honestly. Palance worked in the coal mines as a young man, was a professional boxer and also a pilot in World War II.
He also gained notoriety for his whispered, menacing delivery as host of the 1970s television series, Ripley's...Believe It Or Not.
Less than a month ago, he sold off items from his ranch in California as well as objects in his Luzerne County homestead.

Yeah, he was indeed a class act, I'm sorry to hear he's gone. My favourite memories of his roles: That scornful "I crap bigger'n' you" in City Slickers, and the aura of quiet menace he projected in his serious tough guy roles, best displayed I think in Dracula. For that he perfected a style of walking that made him appear to be gliding, and there's a magnificent scene shot from above and behind, of him gliding down a winding staircase with a large black cape billowing out behind him. His shoulders don't move up and down at all; you'd swear he was a giant bat coasting down on air currents. brrr.... One of the creepiest bits of cinema I've ever seen.

Funny, that spooked me too........

But I always had a visceral reaction to Palance, ever since I saw him goad, outdraw, laugh at, and then kill the farmer in Shane. I was a kid, and how I hated the SOB. Took me a long time to be able to watch him.

Palance had a stage presence that demanded your attention. His portrayals of villains were always larger than life, and often a bit overdone, but they kept your attention. I will miss Jack Palance. I can't believe he was 87...hell...I can't believe "City Slickers" was 37 years ago.

Heck, I'm going to sound dumb but I wasn't aware the man was still alive. I assumed he passed away years ago! But like you said, his acting was overdone, and frankly, I never cared for his movies very much.

If you can't say something nasty, don't say nothing at all:munky2:

Good one Sanctus. You can join the Oldnugly club.:grommit:

Most of his roles were supporting, and he played a pretty good villain. A
naturally creepy looking-speaking kind of guy you would like to hire as a
bill collector.

But hey, you go on set, say the words, and people pay you big money. Nothing wrong with that. Wish I coulda did it.

Where he is now, I'm sure he doesn't care what people say or think. Probably wouldn't care if he was still alive. Seemed like a pretty much self sufficient guy.

:director2:............CUT!!
