Residents probably don't notice. I don't recall it being like that in the early 60's when it was still a small city. (Maybe I just didn't notice ). Nobody I knew heated with wood. Maybe in the rural areas; in many such places people still do.


Some improvements have been made in the rate at which individuals in the 'developed' countries are directly degrading the environment but I don't see any reason to believe the global future looks optimistic. I think just about everything, worldwide, is getting inexorably worse.

Well I disagree . The fog and smog we experienced growing up is nowhere near as prevalent as now . False Creek was an industrial sludge pit . To suggest our current environmental standards are leading Canada or Canadians to the brink of disaster is ignoring the fact we have close to if not the most stringent standards in the world .
