Here is yet another COHERENT POST for you Curious Cdn......but sadly I suspect you will not be complimentary this time around......
Our local representatives of the Tinfoil Hat Brigade- MHz and Curious Cdn have been making NONSENSE statements about Cdn submarines and such so I decided to rebut their crap. My comments are in brackets):
So, what kind of submarines do you think that we need (besides more of them?) Did you know that, almost simultaneously, we had two submarines out on extended patrols this year, thousands of miles from our own coasts?
HMCS Chicoutimi (the one that had the fire) patrolled the far Western Pacific for just shy of 200 days, this spring.
(That`s nice- but diesel/electric subs can only operate safely in areas covered by allied air forces! So patrolling the western Pacific means Cdn subs passed from cover from one Yankee or Japanese air patrol to another- its that pesky need to surface regularly to run the diesels and recharge the batteries! Diesel/ electric subs are fine for coastal defense- but true long range patrols require nuclear powered sub which many Cdns find abhorent!)
HMCS Windsor spent five months patrolling the Mediterranean at the same time.
(And yes- just how many friendly NATO air bases ate there? Along the French, Spanish, Italian, Greek and Turkish shores? And a cdn sub that enters into the Black Sea can count n air support from Turkish, Bulgarian and Ukranian and Yankee air support!)
(This is NOT to say diesel electric subs are useless- merely that their operational range has been substantially CURBED by modern aircraft! As mentioned- they are coastal defense weapons- either on our coasts or the coasts of our allies! And of course- until the Arctic ice pack melts- diesel/electri9c subs have LIMITED USE in the high Arctic!)
Most Canadians haven't the first clue. Advanced diesel boats like ours are greatly respected for their absolutely silent running capabilities. Nuclear boats are like brass marching bands and subs like ours are used for hunting nuclear subs under water. The antisubmarine forces have great respect for submaries that can vanish to the point where the US Navy is seriously debating whether they should get back into the diesel boat business because of the threat that they pose. Even old rustbuckets like the ones that the North Koreans operate are a real threat to them and advanced diesel boats like the ones that Canada, the Australians, Japanese, Dutch, Swedes and Germans operate are the real deal. We just need twice or thrice the number.
(HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The tinfoil brigade thinks Yankees may be building diesel/electric subs any time soon??????? Britain, France, United States and CHINA ALL run nuclear subs for their range and endurance and ability to stalk targets across the planet! And apparently the Tinfoil gang are UNAWARE of how quiet nuclear subs have become! Guess the Tinfoil Group could not hear the news though the Tin foil?)
(IN fact- the ONLY REASON Canada currently has diesel electric boats is BECAUSE BRITAIN GAVE THEIR LAST 4 BOATS AWAY - TO US -as a military cost cutting exercise! Given a choice between diesel/electric or nuclear- BOTH BRITAIN AND FRANCE chose the nuclear option ONLY!)
(There are TWO REASONS to run diesel electric boats- the first is simply COST! Diesel electric boats are MUCH CHEAPER! The other reason is MORAL! Countries like Canada and Japan SHUN any taint of nuclear power in their military- for political reasons!)
(Other LIE-beral military historical highlights include Pierre Trudeau trying to establish a dock workers union so he could arrange strikes in Montreal to interfere with the shipment of vital war supplies to Britain and hamper what Trudope saw as “Britains war of imperialism against Nazi Germany!)
(We also have Lie-beral Jean Chretien cancelling the purchase of EH 101 helicopters simply because a Conservative ordered them. And the EH 101 was the strongest and safest craft flying-already being mass produced for various air forces-with a proven track record!)
(When a civilian aircraft went down in northern Manitoba and the first people on the scene were media types in a rented CIVILIAN helicopter. Chretien was SHAMED into buying new copters. So Chretien bought a smaller (CHEAPER) model- the Cormorant- just coming on the market-with NO maintenance track record- and then LIE-berals had to deal with EXPENSIVE cracks in the overly fragile tail rotors. The purchase price plus the tail rotor mess plus the FIVE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR fine Chretien paid for canceling the EH 101 contract would have bought us a bunch of the safer and stronger EH 101 craft. And of course the smaller craft have to do multiple trips with extra wear and tear and risks, for tasks the EH 101 could do in one hop!)
(The EH 101 had 3 engines and was GUARANTEED to get back safely to base on 2 engines if one failed-though it might have to dump electronics and weapons and other such gear to lighten the load-and with that PROVEN TRACK RECORD being in place.....the helicopter substitute chosen Chretien has TWO engines and if one engine fails it is simply guaranteed not to be completely WRECKED when it hits the ground during an engine failure!)
(If you were a Cdn flying ONE of these craft out over the Beaufort Sea- would you pick the one that will bring you back to base with one engine out? Or would you choose the Cormorant- guaranteed not to kill you in the controlled crash if an engine goes out? This a HARD QUESTION for the Tinfoil Hat Brigade!!!!!!!!!!)
(There is also the submarine purchase engineered by Chretien LIE-berals after fiscal limitations meant that Royal Navy had 4 spare diesel electric subs available and wanted to simply GIVE the boats to Canada in exchange for access to Cdn training bases and such....Royal Navy being so generous in part because they planned to get their money back eventually by selling us spare parts for the subs!)
(It is not well known but diesel/electric subs run on 18 volts and there is not a large supply of parts available since few models exist! By comparison nuclear subs run on 24 volts and due to the number of nuclear subs out there -Britain, France and US all run gang of them - thus parts for Nuclear subs-radar and sonar, torpedoes, missiles, air scrubbers and all that are CHEAPER....so Chretien ordered the diesel electric subs to be COMPLETELY rewired to use 24 volt equipment!)
(This LIE-beral penn6y pinching move pissed off Britain-they cannot sell 18 volt parts for subs rewired for 24 volts! So the cost of re-wiring the subs soared. While Chretien argued over cost the subs sat rusting in harbour for several years and so Chretien ordered them back to Canada to have the work done here-with one of the subs having a LEAKING MAIN HATCH- that would be the one that had THE FIRE!)
(The north Atlantic is ROUGH in November and nobody should be surprised that enough seawater got into the leaking main hatch to short out wiring and cause a fire that killed a Cdn seaman? What price Lie-beral penny pinching now? Chretien LIE-berals only bought the subs to temporarily erase the NATO Slacker label that LIE-beral Canada was wearing yet again!)
(And now we have Our idiot Boy refusing to be concerned about Isis and abandoning our allies and trying to put a good face on his decision to bring in tens of thousands of Syrian jihadist security risks into Canada! The idiot has even suggested returning Isis fighters “can be a powerful voice in Canada”! I presume he means they will advocate eloquently for the World Wide Caliphate?)
William Lyon Mackenzie (with ally Joseph Papaneau) did us all a favour by hitting at and persuading British to remove the grossly greedy Family Compact running Canada and milking it like a cash cow.......now who will free us from the greed of this new Family Compact- the wretched Lie-berals and their civil service union Hog allies with their endless entitlements?)
(As for LIE-beral PM Mackenzie King- he was never a patriot-merely a cynical opportunist and cunning lunatic who communed with the dead - mother buried 20 years previously gave good LIE-beral advice and several of the Beagkle dogs that Kings was devoted to were also fine advisors- being well informed even while in Dog Heaven!)
(King was a cynical LIE-beral who would have sold out the country to Adolf Hitler (along with Pierre Trudeau) in a heart beat if it kept him in power! After all- |King MET one on one with Hitler in Munich and then came back here to tell us “that Hitler is a dour but basically good man, bringing some much needed discipline and hope to the German people”!)
