I have had no issues with Norton. I know it takes more resources than McAfee, but it has caught stuff that McAfee didn't. Both are better than the free stuff out there.

Had Norton when I bought my first computer, however after the year of free updates was over I never renewed. Now I have the free stuff Risus is taking about. AVG, Zone Alarm working all the time, and also have Spybot, Ad-Aware and Malware that I run about once a month to see if the 1st two are working and have not found anything so far.

Northern Ontario,
since 2002 I had that Norton until 2 years ago when they wouldn't renew it anymore...went with 2003 since then and when they won't renew anymore I will go with AVG because Norton after 2003 takes too much of your PC resources even with the minimum install

Well you get what you pay for. So much for your opinion.

and your opinion is worth more why?

agree with tenpenny...have used mcaffee and norton. Both were garbage. Missed new viruses far too often , plus the fact that Norton is VERY invasive. Now use either AVG or Avast.

I find Norton to be a bit of a hog. I've been using the Kaspersky Internet Security Suite for a couple of years and it's pretty good, better I think than McAfee, which is also on a couple of machines here at Chateau Sinister. According to the Task Manager, Kaspersky takes about 30K of memory most of time, and accumulates only a couple of minutes of CPU time in a day. My time in the computer business convinced me the only safe attitude to computer security is paranoia, and I'm not prepared to trust so vital a function to freeware.

What I like most about Kaspersky is that it's readily configurable to be as paranoid as I am about security. It was most instructive when I first installed it to find out what bits of Windows want Internet access. A lot of things want Internet access that have no business requesting it, I've blocked them all and the system works fine. My attitude is that anything that's not required for the system to operate satisfactorily is forbidden. I don't want anything coming into or going out from this machine that I don't know about, and I'm prepared to invest a fair bit of time and effort into making that so.

I liked Norton. He was ok for a plumber.

Ralph was really loud, and you couldn't watch Norton without watching that fat boorish Ralphy-Boy.

So I got AVG.

I was using AVG - until they played the muggs game and said the freebie was being discontinued. I have used Norton too. Both slowed ol' FRED down. Now,I'm on Avast and it doesn't slow things as much. That update guy and the warning siren are a bit un-nerving sometimes.

Actually, AVG (the paid for version) slowed down me puter to a slow crawl, and forbid access without a lot of friggen around to many sites............no, not porn; and had to pre-approve just about everything.

So I fired them too.

Ain't sayin what I got now, but it's good.
