A program that provides incentives such as free trips to cab drivers in London, England, and Manchester who chat about various products and services with their passengers is being expanded.
Taxi Promotions UK says it will soon roll out a new fleet of Womad — word of mouth — taxi cabs.
Asher Moses, a former cab driver and the managing director of the marketing company, said that under the program, drivers and marketers will meet to plan their pitches and promotions. In certain cases, drivers may wear branded clothing or drive branded vehicles.
Moses told the International Herald Tribune that the new campaign builds on its ambassador driver program, in which cabbies chatted about and provided coupons to passengers who showed interest in their pitches.
"The driver can choose what he wants to point out," Moses said. "It's not a hard-core sales talk; it's sort of a subliminal talk."
Drivers in return are given incentives such as free trips.
There are 20,000 licensed taxis in London, the company says, noting that the average journey lasts about 20 minutes.
How about a program like this in Canada? Would it be a good idea?
