The New York Yankees face another long off-season after the Cleveland Indians brushed them aside in four games of the American League Division Series on Monday night.
It was the third straight season the Bronx Bombers flamed out in the first round, prompting speculation that the team will make significant changes.
Owner George Steinbrenner has already gone on record as stipulating that the Yankees needed to advance to the AL Championship Series in order for manager Joe Torre to keep his job. Closer Mariano Rivera and catcher Jorge Posada will hit the free-agent market, and the team will probably bid adieu to 45-year-old pitcher Roger Clemens.

Steinbrenner is right. That kind of money ought to buy a championship, at the very least an LCS.

Threatening Joe Torre with firing whilst they are in the middle of a playoff series was kind of idiotic. Why not wait until later, as I doubt it would have helped matters at all.
