Defenceman Scott Niedermayer was suspended Tuesday by the Anaheim Ducks, a mere formality confirming that he didn't report to training camp.
Niedermayer, 34, is still mulling over whether to play or retire, a decision he has grappled with since Anaheim won its first Stanley Cup on June 6.
The smooth-skating rearguard won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenceman in 2003-04 and captured three Stanley Cups in 12 seasons with the New Jersey Devils before joining Anaheim as a free agent in 2005.
Niedermayer posted a career-high 15 goals and 69 points last season, and also added 11 points in 21 playoff games as the Ducks won the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history.
Now, it looks as though Niedermayer is ready to walk away from the game for good.
What do you think he should do?
Should Scott Niedermayer call it a career? Are his best days behind him? Or should he report to training camp and see out the last two years of his contract?
