It's all systems go for a Canadian astronaut about to embark on his second shuttle mission Wednesday night, with NASA forecasting perfect weather for the "long overdue" lift-off of the Endeavour.
Saskatoon-born Dave Williams, who grew up in Montreal, is set to climb aboard the Endeavour for what will probably be his last space mission. The Endeavour, which hasn't blasted off in nearly five years, has been completely refurbished and sits ready on its launching pad in Cape Canaveral, Fla.
It will be a historic launch for Williams, 53, who is scheduled to make three spacewalks and spend a Canadian record-breaking 19 hours outside in space, breaking the previous record held by Williams's Canadian colleague Chris Hadfield, who spent 14 hours and 24 minutes outside the shuttle in 2001 during his two spacewalks.
Williams is the last Canadian astronaut officially scheduled to fly before NASA winds down the shuttle program by 2010.
