Hugo Chavez is threatening the last broadcast network critical of his government to watch its step, after the Venezuelan president shut down one private TV station.

Yep. Hugo Chavez, a real Hero of the People, the darling of the know-nothing left.......

Come on lefties, get out there and defend these brown-shirt tactics. I mean, the dictatorship of the proletariat is, after all, a necessary step on the road to true communal bliss.

The Gulags are next of course.

The silence is deafening.

Strangely enough, Chevez is a hero of his people. The Americans have tried unsuccessfully to depose him and no doubt they will eventually succeed. Can't have countries controlling their own oil...

It's probably too soon to bring out the old Weapons of Mass Destruction threat again and they can hardly blame Chevez for funding the 9/11 terrorists. All I can think of is those Cuban doctors teaching medicine in Venuzualan universities. Could be the start of a new communist domino theory like VietNam......:roll:;-)

So Juan, I don't get it.

Bush was elected as a hero of his people, supported by a tiny margin... in fact..very similar to Chavez.

So you are saying Bush is good like Chavez or Chavez is bad like Bush? Both bring war to other nations, so are you pro-war or anti-war?

Either one is justifiable, its just the lack of consistency that bugs me.

Show me one speck of evidence that Bush was a hero anywhere. How is Chevez bringing war anywhere? Btw, Chevez won his election by a healthy majority. (58 percent)

Great Satan
Here's some homegrown Chavez warfare.

There was only one thing missing in Chavez fascist list of accomplishments: shooting peaceful student protests. Yesterday events at Plaza Brion of Chacaito, a central district of Caracas, were another milestone in Chavez descent into petty tyrant status towards open fascism. We even had serious injuries when a group of hooded thugs attacked the pacific rally at University of Carabobo (we must always observe the "courage" of these chavista supporters attacking marches with bandannas or masks on their faces, preferably on fast motorbikes so they can escape, XXI century socialism S.A.).

But this being internet, Katy of CCSC send us this great video from Chilean TV who filmed perfectly the modus operandi of the chavista police attacking mercilessly students. There is one chilling moment where about a dozen police man (S.A.?) are pursuing on their bike a single pedestrian student and shooting him with "perdigones" to injury him without killing.

But what do these guys know? They only live there and don't see things as clearly as us objective observers up here in the Northern Hemisphere do..

A buddy of mine married a woman from Venezuela. We speak about the situation almost daily. His wife has spent the last few days in distress over her family back there. To even suggest that somehow or other Bush is behind this atrocity is ludricous. Chavez was elected by a majority,he then passed a law that gave him the power to rule by decree. This means that his parliament votes for his way or hit the highway. Chavez will bring this rich country to the level of Cuba.To paraphrase Kate from the blog "small dead animals" at least the trudeau kids will have someone to admire once fidel passes away.

Ever watch Jesus camp? Some people literally worship him. Alot of people really did think of him as the greatest president ever on his last election. And the more people who turned out to vote the better he did. Meaning those who didn't vote were far more likely to be pro-bush.

He was adored with what, 62% approval ratings for along time (higher than Chavez).

And he was just as polarizing. While 58% voted for Chavez the other 42% would kill him if they could. 8% is not a healthy enough majority to turn the country to a communist totalitarian state. If he had 75% or 80% instead of 58% then it is a healthy majority.

About half of his population (give or take 008/100) despise him with more loathing than any american has for Bush (ever see open warfare in the streets to topple Bush?)

Lets not even start with those Columbians who really don't like armed paramilitary forces being sent into their villages to assert control, shooting up dissidents who you know, like to elect their leaders rather than have a foriegn nation appoint them.

So again, I'd like a little consistency.

Some people obviously do not understand. You can stick your polls and comparisons where the sun doesn't shine. There will NOT be any more elections in Venezuela. Chavez will rule until either he is overthrown or until he dies. Soon all foreign journalists will be kicked out. The borders will be closed,in both directions. This country will become home to a whole lot of miserable people. I hope that someone knocks Chavez off at the earliest oppurtunity. He is destroying that country.

The people of Venezuela don't agree with you. All indications are that the country is doing fine. Chavez currently enjoys a higher approval rate than Bush does. Of course the international oil companies and Bush supporters don't approve his method of government. Using the oil wealth for the people is almost unique in the world. The state-run oil company in Venezuela is not screwing the people like our oil companies are screwing us.

Chavez invited international journalists and scrutineers to cover the last election and he will likely invite them again for the next one.
