Rift, rift and more rift, the Harpercons will have to defend Khadr, he's a Canadian citizen, if Harper lasts six months he'll be dumping on the Americans or he'll be out of the house. On Every issue of contention between the two countrys he must follow the polls or pay the price. His minority offers no
room for error, especially with the flip on the environment.
Just like Arar any charges against Khadr will be cooked drivel and if there is to be a trial, he should be tried in Canada and not by a US military tribunal.

This is crap.

The family is well known for its work in Afghanistan, Omar was captured on the spot in a firefight in which his father was killed, and he killed a US Medic.

I would agree that he should not be tried by US military tribunal......the entire concept of trials of non-US military personel by military tribunal is blatantly unconstitutional. Read the Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution.

He should be returned to Canada, tried for treason and sedition, and when convicted, hanged from a lamp post on Yonge St. Followed by his entire damn family.

I understand the impetus for your remarks, but please elucidate if you would how anyone can reasonably expect that the citizen of any nation being invaded killed hunted and marginalized by some other country hasn't the right to fight back?

You send folk off to kill the inhabitants of some nation...you're going to be filling body-bags and regardless of whether that's Afghanistan or Iraq, do you really think any Canadian would simply lie down and let some other nation steam-roll over them?

The criminal here is anyone who's involved in prosecuting an ilegal and illegitimate war, including Canadian service people. I'm well aware of your unflinching support for America and everything that America does in the name of foreign policy is just fine with you but leave the politics aside for the moment. Don't the people of a nation have a right to defend themselves against someone who brings armaments and intent to change the nation into something that interloper has decided is "better"?

How will the extermination of a bunch of primitives in Afghanistan benefit Canadians?

If the quick response is "Confronting terrorism.." why aren't we in any other number of places with a lenghthy history of contributing to international terrorism...

I'll tell you why...

Because America can fully expect Canada to play as pawn in a conflict that has no forseeable resolve..to the satisfaction of anyone....

Firstly, because it was this nation that haboured training establishments for a terrorist organization that threatened the world...not just the US, but many other nations....including the likes of Australia, Kenya, Spain , the UK to name a few....
Secondly, lets not forget that many of these individual fighting aren't citizens of Afganistan at all at all!
Thirdly, Lets remember how these individual repressed those who were true citizens of Afganistan.

Maybe, just maybe, if the world stands up and fights those individuals like the Taliban who seek to repress the Afganistan society, then maybe Afganistan can contribute positively to the world society. Afganistan under the Taliban was like a cancer. It was breading terrorists and if nothing was done about it, then those terrorists would spread their evil throughout the world harming thousands of innocents. While it is true that there have been several sad and unfortunate cases of civilians being hurt or killed during the Afganistan mission, the benefits for the majority of Afganis and a safer world has to unfortunately outweigh these occurences.

Oh and as a final note...for someone seems to care so much about the ethics of countries who wage war on other nations people and their right to stand up and fight, I really don't see any respect for them as individuals with your "bunch of primitives in Afghanistan" statement, so why would you care about their right? Sound hypocritical to me.......
