Just because it pisses me off there is something I'd like to clear up when it comes to the terms Left and Right and the political spectrum.

First off Right is not Conservative and Left is not Socialist, Libertarian or Commie.

Far Right is zero government at all. None. Zip zant doodly squat.

Far Left is totalitarian dictators whether Nazi or Commie or Fascist.

We sit in the middle whether Con or Lib in the fine nation of Canada so thank your lucky stars that none of us are far right or far left.

As you were!

Don't we lean to the far left as we do have that little thing that can be invoked quite easily, even by a trick, called Martial Law. There is no voting by the public on that and it is brought on by our 'employees' to stifle dissent from the 'employers'. That seems a tad backwards to me. Get a group of crooked 'employees' who are shafting the 'employer' and it should be the emnployers who invike Martial Law and all
employees' would be arrested or whatever it takes to return control to the voting citizens.

If you really want to see how fast our govt can go far Left totalitarian, simply don't pay your taxes. At first they will send nasty notices. If you don't act upon the notices then they send armed people to round you up, take away your house and anything else they can sell off.

Hooray for freedom and democracy!!!

I was taught differently.

What my understanding has always been is that extreme left is communism, extreme right is fascism, both totalitarian dictatorships, just one insists on nationalized industry while the other is OK with privately owned industry.

Now in the Canadian scheme, Retired Soldier called it spot on, in my opinion. We call the Conservatives "far right" in Canada, when in reality they are a centrist to center right party by a more international viewpoint. We don't have a far right party in Canada as much as many try to claim because even our "right wing" party firmly supports a lot of social programs such as our universal Medicare. The Liberals are probably farther from center than the Conservatives but on the Left side of the spectrum and the NDP is even farther yet but the quasi intellectuals who support these utopian agendas don't like to admit that they are radical when imposed on the real world.

Irony aside.

The Emergencies Act, which is still subject to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, exists in Canada, not Martial law.

It's starting to sound like a circle jerk with the voter being bound and gagged and laying on the floor in the middle.

The Cons and Libs we vote for are left of center. We are told there is a left and right side to two parties that front the race but they are so politically close it's like voting for the same.

I don't know about a circle jerk but taxpayers are bound and gagged with their butts up in the air awaiting the bureaucratic shaft.

That would be why we flip flop between them like we do.

Exactly and why things never change when one takes over from the other. We only vote for personalities of a schizophrenic and nothing more

I don't remember who posted it but I recall reading in a different thread a while back that we Canadians say we want change but we don't really want change. I think that's probably true. We can delude ourselves that we are "voting for change" when we elect the Cons to oust the Libs or vice versa, but it really is a delusion.

We are a complacent nation.

imo, there is nothing liberal about the Liberal's gun control agenda of disarming law abiding citizens. imo, there is nothing conservative about the Conservative's bailout package that was designed to protect corporate incompetance for the sake of saving jobs.
