OTTAWA — Stéphane Dion, the former Liberal leader, says he turned down a proposal from advisors to accuse Prime Minister Stephen Harper of favouring Alberta and the oil sands industry during the 2008 election campaign because he feared it would harm national unity.

In an interview, Mr. Dion went on to criticize New Democratic Party leader Thomas Mulcair’s attempt to blame Alberta’s oil sands sector for causing hundreds of thousands of job losses in Ontario and Quebec.

“Mr. Mulcair’s comments are factually wrong and politically ill-advised. We don’t need another divisive leader — we already have Stephen Harper,” said Mr. Dion, who resigned after losing the 2008 election to Mr. Harper.

I'd agree with Dion if I felt that developing the oilsands responsibly was a divisive issue.

Yep, as long as the opposition elects to continually send in the clowns, even a guy like Harper can keep the reigns of power

True but for Christ sake, there has got to be a better frontman for the Cons out there somewhere.

Another assure victory for Harper.

I disagree with that short-sighted toon. The problem is long-term and could be detrimental to the entire country.

It could be IF we weren't in the process of building a massive infrastructure system to spread manufacting out across the entire country.

No doubt, but he's the devil we know.

Isn't infrastructure something that the tooth fairy delivers while we sleep?

Gosh, I guess that you learn something new every day

Is that why Saskatchewan manufacturing has dipped below Ontario levels?

Please.

Oh, I forgot, this is about Ontario and Quebec vs. the West.

Brad Wall, where's me talking points?

Oh, he's giving a lay up to Christy Clark who's about to get slammed.

Wait until the Liberals get their leader then Mulcair will be reduced to a junkyard dog.

Notice that most of the Conservative attack ads are aimed at the third party Liberal and not the official opposition and this is because Harper does not consider the NDP as a threat

The US economy after the crash has been classed as structural – not enough highly skilled workers. Why would it not be any different for Ont – Que manufacturing.
The Oil Sands – Resource development is what pays the bills in this country.

The oil sands are not the sole contributor to the economy. Sorry, but you're wrong.
