So i am getting extremely tired of the arrogance of our reigning political party. I am constantly bombarded with news where references are made to the "Harper Government" and I am at a point of being past laughing. Do Steve and his minions not understand that it is the government of the people of Canada and not their own little kingdom? He is simply the caretaker of OUR government. It is not his any more than it is yours or mine so I thought I would throw this up for discussion.

Does the government stationery still read "The Harper Government" or has it been changed yet? If it's still Harper Government then I would say that anything that shows this government is a negative light is justified and that this government is in contempt of the people of Canada.

That's a trend that started in the media, they always refer to the government as 'the (party) government' or 'the (leader) government'; been doing that for decades.

Best government we've had in this country in my lifetime, and I've been around for quite a while. The really great thing is he's just getting started.

You could take this same quote and insert it back when Trudeau, Mulroney or Chretien was PM and people felt the exact same way (to be honest you could probably go back farther but I wasn't alive then so I can't comfortably comment). The only difference is who is complaining.

Politicians never represent the views of all of their constituents, and their stewardship is judged in election campaigns. Harper, for all you may dislike him, has not alienated the public to a point where they definitively want him gone, and in fact the opposite appears to be closer to the truth when you look at the gains his party made in our last election and the inability of the opposition parties to overtake the government in polls even now.

And why wouldn't they.
The general population is sick of political correctness,
they are sick of the whining and sniveling of the gimme's.
The media is slow to catch on to the mood of the general population but the
Harper Government has.
And looking at a couple of that governments biggest detracters on this site it is easy to see why.
We have both Cliffy and Tenpenny putting their public face forward with avatars of raving lunatics.
Who can take you seriously.
Any way keep barking into the wind as you know you are loosing.
good day

If there was something better to replace him with, I do it in a flash!

Raving lunatic? Dats Me! I want your IP address so my lawyer can contact you.

Not only are you out of touch with real people, so are your heroes. But that's OK. We understand. Conservatives are like the little brother we don't talk about because he has rather anti-social behavioral patterns.

The Glibs did it and I am sure if the Dippers ever got in, they'd do the same. As far as I know other countries' gov'ts do the same.

Did Chretien put The Chretien Government on government stationery? Did Trudeau or Martin? I think that is the point being made.

Look at it this way. If everything goes for a $hit we know exactly who to blame.
So far Harper has not done too badly. One important thing is that he has just returned one of our freedoms that he promised by eliminating the regressive Long Gun Registry.

But he's also primed to take one of our freedoms away- Privacy.

About 90% of people take Harper too seriously- the man is not stupid. One good way of arriving at a solution is to get people talking, an early suggestion may be a long way from the final solution, but the guy is finding out in which direction he should move, the wisdom lies in eventually reaching the solution more than landing on it on the first hop!

Does "privacy" trump "safety"?

Does "privacy" trump "safety"?

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin

What, exactly, are you afraid of?

"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty." - Thomas Jefferson

Show me how this proposed law is going to make anyone safer. We already have effective laws to combat child pornography. While we're on that note, did the Gun Registry make you safer?

Child porn and pedophilia does compromise the safety of children and not just temporarily. I say if a child porno's privacy is compromised T.F.B. I can not see how tracking these bastards jeopardizes my privacy.

We have laws already, you don't get that apparently.

Ohh, so it's alright for everyone's privacy to be potentially violated so we can chase after pedophile bogeymen?

Regardless, the government is backing down on the warrant-less access anyway due to the backlash from the left and right. The law is fundamentally flawed and an affront to our rights.
