For Canadians intent on once again shopping at Zellers, your wish is Hudson’s Bay Co.’s command.

The department store is returning — a decade after most of its stores were shuttered — in the form of a new e-commerce website and an expansion of its brick-and-mortar legacy within select Hudson’s Bay stores across the country.

If you recall, Zellers resurfaced in August 2021 as a pop-up shop in the Burlington Centre and in Anjou, Que.

Canadian shoppers clearly missed the store “where the lowest price is the law” because a year later, the company announced its plan to relaunch Zellers in early 2023 as “a digital-first shopping journey that taps into the nostalgia of the brand.”

Zellers, meanwhile, has been sharing posts on social media.

Shoppers can expect “a refreshed identity” as well as “unique and exciting” products and “everyday value,” the company has said.

Zellers has been giving shoppers a sneak peek of what’s to come and the retailer’s stock will include housewares, furniture, small appliances, pet accessories and toys, toys, toys.

Shoppers can also expect apparel in the coming months, as well as a new “design-led, value-driven private brand,” according to the release.

Zellers was founded in 1931 and acquired by HBC in 1978, serving as the discount division of its flagship stores. In 2011, HBC sold the bulk of its Zellers leases to Target Corp., which closed most stores by 2013.
