So I have been thinking, since my field is history and geography, but it is going into science this fall to write a History Book on what happened at Munich 1972.

What I am going to be looking at is nothing political but two main questions.

Why did the Palestinian commandos and their commanders choose Munich 1972? Why the Olympics?

And what was the background to Munich and did it bring the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to the world's attention.

I am not going to look at what Israel's intelligence agencies did after but what do you guys think??

Germany really wanted the 1972 Olympics to go well because the last time the Olympics had been held in their country was in 1936 (Berlin). At this time, Hitler used them as a propaganda tool to present his ideas of Aryan superiority. The 1972 terrorists would probably have chosen the Olympics in whichever country they happened to be in at the time, but the fact that it underlined the second time German Olympics had dealt a blow to Judaism is perhaps not completely coincidental.

I am not too sure. I am not too sure if they were terrorists or commandos it depends it. Right now since they received military funerals I will keep them as commandos but that can change.
