Almost nine in 10 Canadians would tell their employer if they were mistakenly overpaid by 50 per cent, according to a survey sponsored by ADP Canada.
That number drops slightly if the overpayment was just 25 per cent or 10 per cent, the poll shows.
The younger you are, however, the less likely you would be to report an overpayment. Twenty-four per cent of people between ages of 18 and 29 say they would keep quiet.
There were regional differences, with Atlantic Canadians being the most honest. About 95 per cent would come forward if overpaid, according to the poll.

Been there, didn't have to do that. My boss suddenly discovered one June that the retroactive that was added on my pay in March was also added to every pay for the next 3 months. I hadn't actually noticed - they go in the bank, and get spent anyway.

We worked out a deal that it was repaid over the next year by reducing my pay by a small factor. I made sure we remembered to bump it back up at the end of the year.

If you care about your job and the person who employs you, obviously you would report it. The error will eventually be found.......Better to report it early before it becomes a hardship to repay it.

Seeing as this kind of thing usually does come back to haunt you, I totally would, were I to notice. Generally speaking, sooner or later it usually does come up

I don't, however, usually say anything if I get too much change back from any sort of corporate place- I have (every time I actually noticed) returned accidental excess change to small businesses without thinking about it tho. Should that happen at say the Beer Store or LCBO, it's their loss
