American Footballers in their giant shoulderpads and wussy helmets look hilarious - sometimes quite freaky.

Rugby, the game the American Football is descended from, has no such giant shoulders pads and huge helmets and this is a much more dangerous game than American Football.

Unlike American Football, the game doesn't stop-start-stop-start every 30 seconds and the play doesn't stop every time a player catches the ball. Rugby is a tough man's game. American Football is for wussies.

Here's something you'll never see in an American Football game-

Honestly, I wouldn't want to see that in any sport. I like good hard impacts and grity battles, but not something which could be avoided like this. That's just unsportsman like. I think when an athlete breaks the rules of his/her sport and willingly tries to maim/injure, it's a crime, and should be treted as such. In any sport there is an acceptable level of violence and risk associated, this gouging is right up there with hockey sticks to the head, punches to the back of the head, and ear biting.
