Think about it. They support terrorism, extremism and oppression. They've beheaded over 8000 people. We don't need their oil nor does the U.S. which is fracking the shit out of America. What tactical importance are they? The only thing they do for the west is buy their arms from us.

Ooooooohhhh...

Saudi Arabia controls OPEC and OPEC controls 80% of world reserves.

One word: petrodollar

The best thing that could happen would be for the US to lose its status as the world's major reserve currency, and instead for reserve currencies to be spread out more worldwide. Placing all of our eggs into one basket is never a good idea.

This would reduce the US's influence on foreign affairs, socio-economic impacts, and global trade.

But until that happens, the US gets to dictate who our "friends" are supposed to be.

Those who hold the purse strings, controls the game.

Most Saudis would love to see each and everyone of us infidels driven from the Earth ... but only after they have cleaned every nickel out of our wallets. The wackos accuse the Jews of this but they are looking in the wrong place.

Support for Saudi Arabia is written in stone just like support for Israel is.

Saudi Arabia owns $750 billion in Treasuries and 60 million live below the poverty line.

When Nixon left the gold standard and chose fractional reserve banking, huge promises were made to Saudi Arabia. In 1973 under the shadow of the artificial OPEC oil crisis, the Nixon administration began secret negotiations with the government of Saudi Arabia to establish what came to be referred to as the petrodollar recycling system. Under the arrangement the Saudis would only sell their oil in U.S. dollars, and would invest the majority of their excess oil profits into U.S. banks and Capital markets. The IMF would then use this money to facilitate loans to oil importers who were having difficulties covering the increase in oil prices. Every barrel of oil sold in the universe means that a "Fee" for exchanging foreign currencies to U.S. dollars flows into U.S. banks, in the same way that a Money Mart charges fees to exchange Canadia dollars into American dollars as tourists head south.

The U.S. would buy oil from Saudi Arabia and provide the kingdom military aid and equipment. In return, the Saudis would plow billions of their petrodollar revenue back into Treasuries and finance America’s spending.

The Saudi's are not into killing off Christian Infidels ..... they (Sunni's) are totally into wiping out anybody who follows the Shia religion or any country which supports Shia populated countries.

That sure doesn't jive with the 9/11 attacks, al Qaida or the existence of the Taliban.

The 9-11 attacks were because lots of Saudi citizens did not want U.S. bases on their soil and which were being used to harass the Shia religious followers living in the area of Saudi Arabia with huge oil reserves. The Saudi's want democracy and not a joint run by Kings. In Saudi Arabia, if you spout off about democracy and bad mouth the king, you are tear gassed and shot with American supplied munitions.

Nonsense. It was radical jihadism and the hatred of infidels that flew planes full of Innocents into buildings full of Innocents, not a real estate squabble. You are reading a re-written history. The first draft, the Saudis blamed the Jews for it. I specifically remember that.

Hi! Curious Cdn

Yeh! That is correct. It was Christians who were supporting the King and the arms used to shoot protesters. Same thing in Iran when America installed the Sha.

the presence of American military bases on Saudi soil was a major factor

https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-asks-saudi-arabia-to-boost-oil-production-1530360926

Trump asks Saudi to increase production in order to ease crude price. It seems $75 a bbl is not MAGA material.

This is why oil is such a poor cornerstone commodity. It is controlled with a tap that can be opened or closed as required.
