Who are we as a nation? What is our National idea? What is our National Ideology? Are we groups of minorities trying to build little their little China, Italy, Israel, Russia, Somali, Ireland? Or we are part of a Great Nation, and we are proud to be Canadians

Then… why patriotism is not part of Canadian Government agenda? It is not patriotic to be a patriot of Canada? All minority groups are extremely proud of their native countries, but not so proud of been part of Canadian Nation

The Liberals, communists and socialists all want power,
As they pompously pretend they’re the men/women of the hour,
As they tax, spend and travel and raise taxes up to the sky,
As they tour the world here and there without much reason why.
Of course they don’t tell us this as they continue to pretend,
Its all hidden in the Access Act as they overextend,
But never change the system that could put them out of a job,
No referendums, no recalls, for that low class dirty mob.
The sacred system that elected them cannot be changed,
They will decide what if anything will ever be rearranged,
They banned referendums and recall as though they’re on the level,
Proportional representation too -- possessed by a devil.
They love abortions, same-sex stuff and two-tier health care,
Send our GDP to Sir Bob and he’ll pass it on from there,
Then appointed their friends as senators and Supreme Court judges,
And don’t you dare think – weird and wonderful winks or nudges.
And these appointees cannot be asked any silly questions,
About vested interests or any hidden secret suggestions,
As they change and therefore make more laws than politicians,
And scream it’s all part of our proud heritage and traditions.

Canada isn't a nation. It's a legal state composed of many nations. Among them native nations, the Inuit and the Quebecois. Hopefully in the not-to-distant future states built around the nation will seem as antiquated as states once built around religious allegiences.
Living in Alberta I don't feel much cultural change when I cross into Montana or spend a month in Arizona or Nevada...but when I'm back in Quebec, on a trip to Newfoundland or when I worked in Norman Wells in the NWT's it was a complete cultural shift. The idea of a Canadian nation is anartificial one and I'm quite pleased that nationalism is a thin veneer in Canada.
An interesting phenomenon is developing among some young people. Their identifying group is less that of a state or nation and more of their 'on-line' community.

Not true. Not true at all. Some of us Canadians enjoy also being Americans, particularly those of us who identify more with American society versus Canadian society.Andygal said:

Nah, it's simple. The conservatives would feel more comfy in Rebublican Amurika, and the same republicans would feel better with all those pesky Democrats out of the country. I'm sure the dumbing down will be in reverse.

I don't watch hockey. I don't play hockey. Symbols of Canadian nationalism wear thin. It's like old reruns of Wayne & Shuster....they never were funny. Canadians grasp at straws to prove an identity.
I enjoy our medicare, crank about our doctors, can't stand taxes, and love my country...I think I'm Canadian
