Shouldn't children born to men and women who are Jewish be considered to be Jewish? Only the children of the mother gets that status and even then there are limits to what that covers.

I had a friends who were raised Jewish but then adopted the Baha'i Faith. He still considered himself Hebrew, but not Jewish.

Hebrews are a group of 12 tribes of Israel with Jews from among them. It is not a religion but an ethnic identity.

It's not even ethnic anymore. Jews have mixed with so many other ethnic groups that many of them have lost their Semitic roots. Modern Judaism is a religious identity.
