Those are titles of rank and change when you achieve a number of posts commensurate with the threshold set for each rank.

In other words, the more you post, the more status you achieve as a poster...

Interesting discussion... Of course there is nothing wrong with making a statement about a characteristic and its association with race - provided it is backed by statistics. It's all in the interpretation, though. The problem is, it tends to be not only a generalization, but also potentially misleading. Yeah, you can look at the stats and say that blacks are more likely to commit crime than whites. Stats will probably back that up, too. But maybe it could be more accurately framed as 'poor people are more likely to commit crime than those of greater means', and ' black people are more likely to be poor than whites'. The inferences that jump from these statements are probably more accurate and closer to the truth.

Interesting sidebar - back to one of the original statements that kicked off this topic, that societies with white christian populations are doing better than others - check out Jared diamond's book "Guns, Germs and Steel". A fascinating look at the reasons why some societies flourish, and others do not. An nothing related to race!

I would submit though that some cultures measure success with a different stick than white christian cultures...meaning that though they may seem to be less successful when contrasted against the cultures of the western world, to them they are far more successful at living than their greed-driven counterparts...

It's all so very subjective, really...

True to a certain extent.... although I don't think many people would argue that Africa is more successful than Europe.

Answer - that was an excellent book. I think 'Guns, Germs and Steel' should be on a highschool reading list. Could be History, Geography, or Civics, but at a grade level where discernment is likely. It may have been about Culture rather than Race, but certainly it was about covetness and quile. Expoiting other cultures though must have some ethnocentricity as it does not respect the values of the subverted culture. Isn't that racism?

The concept of "race" is human construction/ tribal nonsense. There are no "races" - there is only one race, the human one.
ANYthing we do that perpetuates this myth, including "Miss Black America" is therefore, stupid and regressive.
We could equally discriminate based on eye colour or blood type. (the talking monkey prefers visual cues)
How about a "Miss Blood Type O" pageant?

As an "ethnic" designation of people who come from a particular area or region of the world - also nonsense since all geographical stereotyping is simply more of the same obsolete tribal construction (territoriality).

The sooner we ditch the concept of race as obsolete, the better for all of us.

They've made it into a tv documentary now. I watched a portion of it. It was fascinating. It was a multi part documetary.

re: Gun and germs

Not bad....
much better is 'The Human Zoo' by Desmond Morris.
Seminal work in cultural anthropology, and all the behaviourism you can stand.
Eye opening but also somewhat disgusting to realize that we humans are little more than chatting chimps hiding beneath a VERY thin veneer of civilization.
Good fast read, too, very entertaining, not boring at all.

"Clearly, then, the city is not a concrete jungle, it is a human zoo." - Desmond Morris

I love Desmond Morris.

His specials are the only thing I will watch repeatedly. Actually every time there on tv.

I've read the naked ape so many times the book has fallen apart.

Specials?
I didn't know he had any?
Recall he had a show a while back called "Connections" ...(I think?) and it was brilliant - the basic premise was the same as The Human Zoo in that all human behaviour has a parallel source in the animal kingdom, and that humans in big cities display the same abnormal psychopathology as apes in captivity.
They did all sorts of cool sociological "experiments".
- Guy fakes a heart attack and falls down in the big city versus guy fakes a heart attack and falls down in a small town or so-called "primitive" village.
In those small, backward tribal villages the faker get help from other people within seconds - In the big city, New York I think it was, people stepped right over him for an hour before anyone even bothered to ask if he was okay.
Yep, we are soooooo superior.

Good point!

I use the term of nazi, racism is just another excuse for reckless hate by pyschopaths.

It is also true that there is increasing "retro-racism" as well as "retro-sexism" occuring.

Political Correctness should die a dead.

Ps Oriental is not racist, though I do think Asian is slightly generalising...

Basically racism nowdays is just when a white person has an opinion or sticks up for themselves.

That's just racist paranoia.

Like hell it is. I've rarely seen a non-white person get accused of being racist, and I've heard a lot of slurs about the White Man taking their land, enslaving them, yadda yadda. If I am expected to take it when someone mocks me based on race/culture, why is no one else?

Why can major publications publish Newfie jokes without blinking, but a man will be villified, beaten or charged for telling a "Paki" joke? Why is a joke highlighting the supposed stupidity or alcoho abuse of Newfoundland residents recognized as funny but one poking fun at the say... cheapness of East Indian people decried as racist rantings?

Our culture is pandering to as many cultures as possible and trapping itself in a cycle of apology for crimes we didn't commit, and some institutions ( very small media driven organizations) are profiting by this by constantly assuming an air of martyrhood and playing the constant victim. I'm sick of it.

I was born into a family of NL outport Fishermen. My ancestors owned no slaves, conquered no tribal lands, and engaged in no race wars. I owe apologies to none of you. Bugger off.

And for god's sake people, lighten up. Stop being offended on someone else's behalf. It's annoying.
