good stuff

how come we can't access certain topics? are they just for admin type people? or ubergods and above or something? I feel left out

Yes, there were Staff topics showing up which shouldn't have. You can't access them and they also should not have shown up in the recent topics list.

This reminds me of an old Graphic Design rule which goes...

"Less is More".

The Wall Street Journal analogy is a good one. The format, the look, is part of the branding. I didn't know this website was broke to begin with. It had everything that was essential to those who made a community out of it and I never heard complaints as to speed. I say that having moved out into the countryside and being forced to use farmer internet, as I call it.

Legibility, ease of use, good organization, a design easy on the eyes was all part of it's appeal and brand.

I don't want to slam Andem or any of the tech people on this. I'm sure they have the best intentions and are working hard at making this all work. However initially changing organizational issues means the posters have to change theirs, and I was comfortable with my system of using this forum.

Anyway, I do notice progress getting back to the center. The first shock of everything becoming different really lost me and shattered the appeal. I imagine however it is the people that I will eventually feel drawn back to argue with.

Agreed elevennevele.

But it does look like some of the old "skin" is coming back in some places.
I always thought that old version was the best of all visual designs, free of clutter, intuitive
placing of buttons and options.

I do, however, understand that Andem posted he lost a support helper
and that the old software may be obsoleted in that it will receive no upgrades anymore.

So Andem most likely had to make a change.

The old software was not exactly obsolete, but has been under heavy pressure due to security holes and the fact that its open source software, making it easy for people who know code to find holes and possibly make an attack. We've had one issue in the past, but it was not a security hole per-se.

Either way, I've been working to bring the forums back upto the standard you're all used to. Additionally, there are a bunch of new features which make life a lot easier and gives us the opportunity to allow for better organisation.

Again, sorry if it's becoming difficult to get used to, but it was the exact same thing with me the first couple of days I started exploring the software and how to use its features.

Overall, the forums should even be faster than before and your data is more secure than ever. Be sure to look out for more features outside of the forums themselves ;)

Andem can we have the little flags back? it's useful to help understand someone's cultural background if we know where they're from.

Weighing in just now and I like this forum. I am familiar with all the features as I have posted on other BBs like this one. Very good job.

i didn't know easter had a time zone :D

I think we're all set to GMT, which is useful for me, but a bit weird for a Canadian website. Then again it'd be rude to other parts of Canada to choose EST

I don't know if this should be in this thread, but anyway. These few days when I enter the forum and press "Get new posts", I get a really huge list, because some posts are listed as new several times. Is it a problem with my broswer, maybe, or did anyone else have a similar problem?

Oh, good Lord...

This is my first visit back to Canadian Content in quite some time, and my eyes were assaulted! Yes, in fact, the little orange icons jumped about and poked my eyes with hot, pokey things! (And not the hot, pokey things I enjoy.) In fact, one of the icons even swore at me! I swear, I heard him! With my own two eyes! It's a shame, in my view, that the older format has been discharged.
