I don't really know what to say Herm. Whether you should or shouldnt be annoyed probably has a lot to do with how you heard the term bandied about in the past.

it's not a common word in the UK.

I chose not to be upset, since that's nearly always the right choice in these matters. And of ourse I know my wife means no harm by it

I heard it a lot growing up. it was the word du jour. And it was never said kindly.

Don't get me wrong, I don't take offense or get horridly upset. I just don't like the use.

I think the worst for me though, is hearing someone else use it in reference to themselves.
