What can Canada learn from pre-war Germany?

Prior to the war, the allies were slow to react. This allowed the Nazi regime to close its borders and so isolate its domestic resistance movement and so prevent it from coordinating its activities with the allies.

What could Canada do to ensure that if as soon as a neighboring country engines to shift to the far right, that that country's future resistance movement could escape to Canada before the neighboring state starts to close its borders?

Nazis are socialist. It is even in their party name.
Far right is very subjective. People like Cliffy thing that other than hand out their welfare cheques government is a far right conspericy.

They are very democratic. Everyone has the right to vote for the same leader.

In any event far left and far right are nearly identical. Both seek to prescribe what everyone can think, do, and say.

The official name of the NSDAP was pretty much meaningless once Hitler and his cronies gained control of the party. The socialist aspect of the party was pretty weak in any case, seeing as even before Hitler joined the party it was quite racist. Hitler paid lip service to the social aspect of the party's name, but took it radically to the right. People who want to disparage socialism have often seized on the name, but all they are really doing is showing their ignorance of what Nazism was all about. Research "Night of the Long Knives" if you want to see how Hitler dealt with the left wing elements of the party once he was in power.

Just because a party's racist doesn't make it right-wing. Britain's Labour Party is, like the Nazi Party, virulently anti-Semitic.
