Thanks for your positve input Maple. That spammer gave a good topic. I'm reading a collection, Years Best Sci Fi 14th edition, 1997. It's a re-read for me but lots of good stories and I just skip over the bad ones.

Blood draining mirrors accused killer Blake Leibel's graphic novel

Did Toronto real estate scion Blake Leibel's grisly graphic novels mirror the macabre murder he's accused of committing?
Leibel is charged with murder in the torture slaying of his Ukrainian girlfriend Iana Kasian -- mother of his three-month-old daughter.
The young man -- set up in a Beverly Hills mansion and living off his trust fund -- is also charged with felony rape in an unrelated case.
Now, Crime Watch Daily is reporting that Leibel had an obsession with the dark side -- including sex, blood and violence. Did his graphic novels inspire the crime he's accused of, particularly in his graphic novel Syndrome?
"I've talked to a lot of people who knew Blake, a lot of people in the industry, and quite frankly a lot of the people in the industry were freaked out by him because the things that he put into his work, into his graphic novel, that he conceptualized, for all appearances wound up being the playbook that he used for the crime," writer Marc Ebner told the website.
L.A. County Sheriff's Capt. Stephen Katz said there are some chilling similarities -- including the blood being drained from the victim.
"As homicide detectives began to process the crime scene, and upon examination of the victim's remains, they found that the victim's body was devoid of any marked quantity of blood," Katz told Crime Watch.
Pal Jeremy Tenser says there's a misconception that the dark comics he created mirrored Leibel's personality.
"The misconception that as an artist he's this dark evil guy, when really he's not," said Tenser.
In Toronto, where the accused killer's father, Lorne Leibel, owns mega-developer Canada Homes, the 35-year-old's arrest stunned family and friends.
"I don't think I have ever met a nicer man than Lorne," retired Toronto restaurateur George Bigliardi told the Toronto Sun at the time of the murder. "This guy is a pure gentleman. First class."
Another pal added in June: "It has drop kicked Lorne. He is shaken."
Leibel is being held without bail at a jail in downtown Los Angeles. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
If convicted, Leibel could face a date with the executioner.
