What About Canada?
Polls indicate that Canadians are more interested in observing the U.S. election campaign with the accompanying financial crisis and debates than they are in the Canadian election.
I have to admit that the unfolding story about a young man’s gallant drive to rescue his country and its symbolic White House from the clutches of the extreme right wing neoconservatives, fronted by George Bush, is indeed compelling.
But what about Canada!
As one university student commented, it’s a field of blue – there’s no horse race. It’s not entertaining. What the hell is with this field of blue? There’s an old story about an emperor who fiddled while the city burned . It appears there is a new story being written. A story about a country watching another country’s rescue attempt while the extreme right wing neoconservatives, led by Stephen Harper, light fires all around the viewers.
Look at the mess the U.S. is in. Does the fire have to scorch your ass before you stand up, give your head a shake, and take a serious look at what is going on.? I am amazed. Particularly with students who are thought to have their brains in gear, and who, one would think, would be able to see past the out of date sweaters, smiles, and kitten on the lap scenario.
Google the NCC and Stephen Harper, Leo Strauss, Paul Wolfowitz, Allan Bloom, Walter Berns, Ted Morton, Rainer Knopff, Tom Flanagan.
Look at Harper’s behavior and record over the past minority government. What happened to world renowned scientists and civil servants who happened not to agree with the Harper view of starlight?
Look behind the curtains. There is no guarantee that there will be a gallant young man or woman around to rescue us.
