Round Two - Game Two

Pens vs Sens

GO, PENGUINS, GO! ROCK THE ICE GUYS!

Oh, and lets have some jump in this game..........the last two play-offs I watched were anything but exciting ...........well maybe the goal by the 'little ball of hate'. LOL!

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

And that, fellow earthlings and hockey fans.........is why he is the Best in the World and the best in period 1 of Game 2. Pens score two - both by Crosby
Sens score one - by Alfie - nice goal too, he faked out Vokoun just as Sid did on Anderson. As Don said, 'you gotta keep the goalies thinking.'

Penguins played a solid 1rst P - all four lines have had SOGs. Sens need some jump. Good game so far.

ROCK ON PENS!

2 to 1.........end of 1rst.

you must have missed the 'san jose'/'los angelos' games, very exciting, more physical and tough
and full of hustle, than anything in the east.

Yeah, I did talloola but I am going to be tuning into them from now on. Thanks for the tip.

49 seconds into 2nd P - Karlsson in box for hooking

Pens on PP

Sidney Crosby – Hat Trick!

Sen's Greening gets one - a beaut on Vokoun then Brendan Morrow adds another for the Pens after going to the dressing room shaken up by a hit. First shift back - goal.........Rock on Morrow.

Sens pulled Anderson and put Robin Lehner in his first play-off game.

Score at end of 2nd Pens 4 Sens 2

Rock on Pens!

The Senators were able to pull within one but no further. Again, it was not a great game by the Penguins. Sidney’s vision in the face-off circle is impaired by the face-guard he has to wear, so his numbers are down. It did not however in any way impair his ability to score goals for the team. Watching Sidney on a break-away is poetry in motion. Every one of his goals were smart goals. Like Alfie, he faked Anderson on one of his goals. Sid never once looked at the net – I thought he was passing to Letang, I think it was. Then whap and the puck is in the back of the net. Ah...........Sidney. You do it so well. Kudos on the records you set tonight, Kid.

Vokoun makes me nervous........really nervous at times. Granted he can make some hi-lite reel saves but the one he missed early in the 3rd period bringing the Senators within 1 of the Penguins, was not one of them. I guess he didn’t hear me screaming at him to GET BACK IN THE NET! That said, he has to stay in goal so I sure hope Dan takes him aside for a wee chat.

Karlsson did not have a good game nor did he spend much time on the ice, his shift minutes were way down. Hope he isn’t fighting an injury. Alfie looks like he having the time of his life out there. He was in the game all night and his fake on Vokoun for the one and only Sen’s PP goal........was a thing of beauty. Paul McLean pulled Anderson early in the 3rd throwing Robin Lehner into his first play-off game – poor kid I thought.....until I saw the saves he kept making. Kudos to you, Robin – good back-up.

4 to 3 Penguins and they lead the series 2 to zip.

Missed Detroit vs Ranger game due to conflict with the IIHF Semi-finals but was glad to hear that Mike Babcock's team came back for the win.

Did watch the Sharks vs Kings game. Lots of chatter on TSN about the two late penalties by the Kings which gave the Sharks after taking the game to OT, a minute and 19 seconds of 5 on 3. They couldn't do with two extra men but Logan Couture managed with 5 on 4 to score the winner for the Sharks. Rock on Logan.

Jason Spezza will be back in the line-up for Ottawa tonight as they face the Penguins on home ice. Opinion is divided on his comeback and the effect on the lines with his return. Spezza is always a threat and part of me hopes to see him do well in his first game back. That said, it would be really sweet to see my guys take this game.

GO PENGUINS, GO!

It wasn't the outcome I was hoping for but give the Sens credit..........they played a great game. Actually, it was the best game of the series so far with lots of fast-paced action and back and forth hockey. Both goalies were fabulous in the net, but Anderson was just a tad better. Spezza's return to the line-up and subsequent solid play shows why he is so valuable to the team. But once again it was the Captain who got them the goal in the final seconds of the 3rd sending the game to OT. It took a double OT to decide the game and the winning goal came off the stick of Greening for the Sens - who was playing with a chunk of fiber glass in his cheek from a stick to the face. Now that's way more than just second effort. Good on Greening.

The reffing sucked again. The non-call on Cooke then the subsequent call on Karlsson for the same thing - a high-stick - really left me wondering if they have blinders on. There were other missed calls and questionable calls but that one was simply outrageous.

The 3rd and 4th line of the Pens especially the play of Craig Anderson was stellar in this game. The Sens effectively corralled Sid and Anderson shut him down as he did Malkin, Dupuis and Letang.

Onto Game 4 back in Ottawa............hoping for a better result for the Pens..........but looking forward to another exciting play-off.

i'm not cheering for penguins, BUT, they blew that game, can't believe they actually came on the

ice that close to the end of the game, and tried to be cute, instead of locking the door, and

just playing it out. Having malkin on the point is a weakness if one is relying on him to be

very responsible defensively.

Alfredsson will notice everything, and he did, he is a very wise player, don't try to fool him.

They did blow the game......talloola. What they were up to dilly-dallying on the PP in the dieing minutes was beyond me. It shows me they should have more respect for their opponents then perhaps what happened wouldn't. It was beautiful goal by Alfie - one of the biggest of the play-offs. The Pens have not been all that impressive as a team in either series they played so far. Hope Dan has a wee chat with them before Wednesday.......someone has to.

Detroit ahead of Chicago 2 to 1 midway through the 2nd P.

Once again, NHL reffing proves itself to be completely bush-league. If Torres had hit Franzen like that he'd have a match penalty and would be flying to see Shanahan for planned extended time off. If a Canuck had hit him the refs would find a reason to send two to the box. Toews high-sticks and hacks nearly everyone all game and the refs turn a blind eye.

The league is about as legit as roller derby.

a lot of blindness going on out there.

some of the refs like to let things go during the playoffs, others don't, and it seems that
certain teams are targeted.

ever since the burrows incident, where he blew the whistle on the ref who threatened him during the
warmup, 'he' has been targeted, big time, not anyone's imagination. He just bites his lip and says
nothing, but it is obvious he has been blackballed by the refs. He hardly ever draws a penalty either,
its open season on him if players wish to do so.

the players handle the incompetence much better than the fans, or the coaches, but of course the
coaches only see their own side of things, and for the most part, the fans are the same, but
when one is watching a game from a neutral point of view, it is obvious for both sides.

I wish the NHL would make up its mind. I see no point in paying much attention to the regular season because it's a measure of pretty much nothing, except a determination of which teams get to play in the 'other rules' tournament.

I know 'but' I love the regular season because I just love watching hockey games played by the best players
in the world, and I along with the players notice all of the crap by the refs, but I just continue on
watching, because the players do that, and I respect that. They can't control the refs, they can only
control their own game.
I hear so much complaining about how unimportant the regular season is, but not for me, I love it
because I don't really care about the playoffs, its a new season, nothing to do with regular season.
I start over when playoffs start, watching a 16 team league, in a short little season, and any team
has a chance to win.
It seems such a waste of time, and so empty to watch the regular season, 'only' waiting for the
playoffs, what is the point of even watching, just wait for playoffs then.

I thought there should have been a penalty on the franzen hit tonight, but after four or five replays from
different angles, I changed my mind.

torres made his bed, now he has to lie in it, he just has to back off a bit, he is being watched very close,
he earned that, just like cooke did, now cooke has changed his game, it is noticeable, torres needs to do
the same, his hits have been getting stronger and stronger in the playoffs. Stoll apparantly complained
to the league that torres should not have been penalized. (they are good friends).

Torres got screwed.

Half of the penalties in the regular season are completely phantom. If you get too close to a guy on a break away and whiff on a stick check they'll call it hooking or slashing. The refs put up their pavlovian arms, whether or not contact is established at all. I can't stand watching that stuff.

the new rule on hooking is just that, as soon as the stick is 'horizontal' and touches the hand area, it is
automatically hooking.
my husband and I just laugh at that rule, as we watched so many years under the original hooking rule, which
was 'actually' hooking.
I got use to the new rule, so as soon as I see the stick horizontal going toward the hand, oops, 2 minutes.

the one that annoyed me was when 'higgins' got called for hooking when he did a 'textbook' check on a player
from behind, never ever lifted his stick from the general ice area, and then got called for hooking.
the refs just make themselves look foolish, BUT again, higgins skated to the penalty box, with an obvious
look on his face of disbelief, never said a word, and did his time.

I refuse to let the refs anger me, they will not have that power over my feelings, ever, they will not
interfere with my love and interest in the game, ever. They are a necessary evil on the ice.

The rule book says it's hooking when contact by stick is made above the upper hand.

Nevertheless, since the rules are so dumb and don't pass the laugh test they can't actually be enforced when games actually count. It would turn playoff games into continuous powerplays.

yeah, i'm sure you are right about the rule, haven't read the rule book.

but i've seen it called all year as soon as the stick is anywhere around the hand area, and often not
around the hand area, but just up in that area in a horizontal manner.

I do agree that the game should be played without using one's stick on another person, from behind, as
it just shows the inability to keep up, and one has to grab on.

how about all of the cross checking around the net area, and all of a sudden someone gets called, how
do they decide which one to call.

players must have long bruises across their backs, from the sticks.

I can't imagine any of the teams in the east, handling any of the teams in the west, as I haven't seen
that kind of play in those games, even boston.

I'm expecting an announcement from the canucks tomorrow concerning the coaches, I think they are all toast.
I'm just assuming the announcement, but it should come soon.

I agree, the West looks much stronger than the East.

Look forward to the coaching news. Hopefully Gillis is gone too.

I don't think gillis will be gone, cause he had that media session, and
gave lots of statements on what he is planning to do for next season, along
with the aquilinis.

Don't you think they would have fired him before he did that?

If they do fire him, then we have to wait for the new GM to get established,
then he has to hire the coaches.

June 15th is the entry draft, I think, so they better get busy and settle
this g.m. situation now.

Gillis said he had to come up with a business plan for the owners to review. Maybe they didn't like his plan. He sure tried hard to cover his own *** during that conference, blaming everything and everyone for their problems except himself. It didn't sound like a guy who felt his job wasn't being scrutinized.

His problem is he's tough with the media and fans but is a pushover with players and contracts. He's even admitted to offering no-trade clauses without the players asking for them. His Luongo deal made Luongo a zero-value asset. You can't even give him away. He does all this dumb stuff on-the-job then puts on the a-hole-tough-guy persona in front of a microphone.

yeah, we have been following many of his 'deals' too, he has had more failures than successes.
We were angry when he put grabner in that ballard deal, and also a first round draft pick. I don't
dislike ballard, I actually think he is fine, but his contract is too expensive, and gillis did
get sucked in at the time he acquired him.

Perhaps you are right, maybe he will be gone.

Anyway, it is time that has caught up to this team, time has run out, the team is stale, together too
long, coaches have been there too long, freshness has dissapeared, and that is really no ones fault,
its just time to move on, makes changes, start anew.

Nice win by the Red Wings last night giving them a 2 - 1 lead in the series over the Hawks. Rock on Red Wings.

I remember watching a post-game interview with Mike Babcock after the first game of the series when the media were all over him after a loss to the Hawks. Calm, cool and collected he told them to settle down, everything would be okay then he made an up and down motion with his hand imitating a roller coaster - a shot at the media and well aimed it was.
