The Evil Empire
by Chris Hedges.

I just finished reading this book, what a great read. From Troy to the Iraq, not much has changed about war, of course we all know that. This work explores war's universal power based on the firsthand experience of a talented correspondent. Vivid episodes illustrate the nature of human conflict (myth, nationalism, seduction, addiction, comradeship, alienation, etc) in conflicts around the world.

Did the book mention paranoia/depression in returning battle experienced veterans?

It seems to be the most lengthy attribute other than the obvious physical injuries - what happens to the mind when actual killing and maiming occurs - enacted by those who have brought up to believe killing and hurting others is on the "wong" side of our belief system.

This can also lead to physical addiction - drinking and drugging to cope with the memories not often acknowledged.

Oh my

We need some excitement of that kind here - this is a pretty introverted group when it comes to sexual matters! HA!
